Free agent forward Shawn Marion is leaning strongly toward signing with Cleveland over Indiana, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
As @daldridgetnt reports, Pacers applying for Disabled Players Exception of $5.3M for George injury. Indy could offer Marion more than Cavs.
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
Marion hasn't formalized agreement with Cavs yet, but Indiana's already looking elsewhere than Marion for free agent help, sources said.
What a HUGE pickup Marion would be at the minimum. Got to love that Marion can backup the 2, 3, and 4 positions and can still score quite a bit. How awesome.
Irving/Delly
Waiters/Allen?/Miller/Harris
James/Marion/Jones
Love/Thompson
Varejao/Haywood/Powell
Need another center obviously, but we have all of the tools needed to go small with Thompson or Love playing the 5.

Marion, although old, is still a very versatile and effective defender.
He would be a tremendous addition to this team.

Would welcome Marion. I think come playoff time you could play him at SF and swing Lebron up to the SG spot or also play him at PF in small-ball lineups with Lebron at SF.
Still BADLY need another center.

As a Mavs fan I'll miss Marion but for our roster it was time to move on. But from a Cavs stand point Marion would add so much depth to the lineup. Also, if this Love trade goes through like it looks like it will the defense that LeBron and Marion will bring will make up for any that you would lose with Love. Although, I do think that Love's defense or lack thereof is a little overstated. He's not the Matrix of old but you don't need that. He will be missed here in Dallas.

How much does Marion have left? Can he defend 2-guards?

This is already being discussed in the thread "If Cavs Trade Wiggins For Love, Who is the Starting 2 guard?". It was a post I think you missed the point of. The 5th starter on a team isn't usually one of the best players*, but a role player that balances the starting line-up. I actually mentioned Marion as an option before it was ever reported Marion was interested in Cavs. See my last post on that thread around 08/08 1:45 p.m.

Watching him last year with the Mavs my second favorite team, he can guard some 2's but he's best suited to guard 3s and the 4 imo.

Great pickup. The same level as Battier was for the Heat! The versatility is endless with Lebron and Waiters for instance love and Miller and Marion on floor @ the same time!!!!

As long as we don't get any older, I'm cool with this. Heard something about Chauncey Billups...yeah no for me.

Marion will fit in very well. They dont need for him to score many points. Just show a respectable mid range jumper and play solid defense on against their top player. On any lineup construction I dont see Marion rising above the 3rd option at best. Most times he will set screens or get a dump off pass but I guarantee he wont have any plays called for him. As far as how much does he have left in the tank I would say that he has enough to make 2 years because his minutes will go down a lot. I see Marion maxing at 15 minutes each night. He is also at a discount and wold command 4-5 mil from another team.

3rd option? We are looking for about a 7th option.

A good goal for Marion would be to average 5 points and 5 rebounds in 15 minutes. He should mainly focus on defense and allowing LBJ to take a break without worrying about loosing a lead. You are right. 3rd option may be stretching it.
Lebron
Love
Irving
Waiters
Thompson
Miller
Allen ?
Marion.
This would be my pecking order on who gets the ball.

The answer is clearly Dion.
You seem to think he should start because of his overall talent level. Above, you have a starting line-up of:
V
Love
Lebron
Waiters
Irving
You have 4 scorers on the floor, and your primary scorer would also have to be your primary perimeter defender, which is inefficient. You really only have two defenders on the floor at all. You never answered my question though, as to whether you thought Waiters is good enough to be a primary perimeter defender. If you felt that way, I could see the reasoning for your line-up.

What are you even arguing at this point? Waiters is starting. There no if and or buts about it, move on.

The 5th starter on a team isn't usually as good as Dion Waiters.
Agreed. It's criminal how under-rated he is. I think he could have broken out in Minny this year as the primary scorer and still had upside.

Marion would be an insane pickup for the Cavs. You can buttplug him into lineup and he'll do what he needs to do.

Why can't you answer the simpliest question? Why do you think it is best to cram the floor with offensive talent, rather than picking up a primary perimeter defender? Dion may start, but would that really be what's best for the team?
