What's up with Dion?

I drafted Dion in fantasy and I'm a little confused with him. Players going into their 3rd year usually see an uptick from their 2nd year, but, look at his per 36 stats.

Code: Select all

Season     FG%  3P%  2P%  FT% TRB AST STL BLK TOV  PF  PTS
2012-13   .412 .310 .446 .746 3.1 3.8 1.2 0.3 2.5 2.3 18.3
2013-14   .433 .368 .455 .685 3.4 3.6 1.1 0.3 2.7 2.7 19.3
2014-15   .324 .400 .310 .667 1.4 1.4 0.7 0.0 2.4 4.1 10.3
Career    .422 .343 .448 .713 3.2 3.6 1.1 0.3 2.6 2.5 18.6

It's just a train wreck. off by 10% on his FG%, rebounds down by more than half, assist down more than half, steals and blocks also down about half, fouls up a ton, points down almost by half.

What the hell happened to this guy? I thought playing with LeBron would make the game easier for him, but instead it looks to have destroyed him.

Any thoughts?

Forgive me if this has been talked about to death, but what about moving Kyrie to the 2? Doesn't seem like they have the personnel to make that work at the moment, but maybe with a trade or next season?

Whys all the focus always on dion? Sure he's playing terrible but so are most of the guys. Lebron has been rubbish and Kyrie is just murdering this team with his dribble dribble brick basketball he's playing. No one is playing a lick of defense.

You can't give dion all of the blame when he gets none of the credit. Kyrie is the biggest individual problem on this team right now.

That's fair and I agree, so wouldn't the solution be to bring in someone to help setup the offense and give it to Lebron/Love/Kyrie in their best spots?

I also liked the idea of a Cavs fan to let Lebron initiate the offense and essentially be full time point forward.

For whatever reason both Dion and Kyries shooting always seem to be off at the beginning of the season.

There's only one basketball and Dion is low man on the totem pole. Coach James saw fit to rip Kyrie. There are going to be growing pains. It's been four games people.

Kyrie needs to learn to play point guard and lebron wants him to learn to be a point guard. I think long term it's for the better but right now yeah lebron at point foward would work better.
We don't need anyone brought in to set up the offense we have the pieces we just have to puti t together. Defensivley is another story. I think our horrid defence is really having an impact on the other end. If we could at least try things would look better.

It's not just Dion. Everyone on the Cavs is struggling on offense a bit. They're still trying to find themselves.

Dion needs the ball to be effective, and he isn't getting it, and when he does he is forcing up shots. I can only guess that he figures it might be a while before he gets another touch so he might as well shoot it. Honestly, Love isn't getting enough touches either.
But in the starting lineup, the only player who isn't used to having the ball is Andy, so he is the only guy used to moving without the ball and finding open spots on the floor. He is the only one who isn't having to adapt his game.

There is no way Dion is going to get the ball unless he is a 6th man.
That's what Cavs fan dont understand, Dion plays with 3 other guys that are not just better, they are way better than him as players.

You understand that starter or not one or two of those guys are always gonna be on the court with dion.

I do, thats why you should try to have him come from the bench and when it does not work, trade him and Tristan Thompson (asking for 12m$ a year... ) for role palyers that fit this team.

Dion is too worried about getting his shots and taking so many bad ones. He is so much better when hes playing as a point guard. I loved watching him last year when kyrie was at and he looked to be a passer. Score first dion is just not as good or as exciting.

He was 4-8 last night for 10 points. LBJ took 26 shots and Kyrie took 16. Dion's suppose to be the leading scorer off the bench. I thought that was his new role? The Cavs, the local media, and too many of the fans are just ruining this kid. I'd be all for trading him at this point but I'm pretty sure we've destroyed his trade value.

TT is playing like its a contract year. He needs to be singularly focused on rebounds and defense. Instead I'm still watching him get his shot blocked on a consistent basis.

He's my favourite player but he's forcing it a lot and not getting enough minutes, Harris was in the game way too long yesterday.

the Dion Waiters situation...

how do we handle this? Majority of Cavs fan who sat in their living room & heard Stern say "With the 4th pick of the 2012 draft, Cleveland Cavaliers select Dion Waiters..." simply love the guy, it wasn't love at first sight but it's love.

But, seems like his time has came, it doesn't' seem like he'll be able to produce 20ppg off the bench as we'd like, and if he had his own team he could really be an elite pg. But nobody else sees it this way, only us, so trading him might be difficult especially after the season started, in retrospect we should've moved him this summer.

Only if Minny would've bit Dion & TT for Love trade instead.

Dion's an elite talent but I believe his talents are redundant on this team, and I don't blame him for not wanting to be just a spot up 3 point shooter, when you're a 22 year old who's just developing his game, you really don't want to be put into a box.

But his value is so awful that it's best to not even trade him at this point IMO, I just don't want them to do anythign stupid like trading him for Brewer.

All this "Kyrie needs to be a PG first" stuff is bs. Kyrie is not that guy, Kyrie needs to put pressure on defenses with his scoring then look to others. His greatest weapon is his ability to create, and I'd rather try and teach him to create off of his scoring then to force him to be something he's not.

With all that said he is fit for the point guard position and no other.

As for Dion, him learning to play off ball is nothing but good for him. 2 guards need to have off ball ability to really impact the game like they need to. Sure, he is great with the ball, but he needs to learn that there is more to an offense than that. He needs to come off screens hard and then go into the triple option (shoot, pass, or drive) automatically. He has all the abilities to do those things yet skips the 2nd one at times. Everything he does needs to be within the flow of the offense, it will make the Cavs better and it will extend his career by 5 years if he's a player who can be a threat both on and off the ball. Now is not the time for Dion to think about the "me" stuff. If he makes sacrifices this team will be better, and winning will make him better in the long run.
