CLE/BOS/?? Rumor

Post#1 » by Andrew McCeltic » Wed Dec 24, 2014 6:44 am

If Varejao is out for a significant period, it's believed that the Cavs will intensify their months-long efforts to trade for a big man. The team has been seeking additional help for their front line going back to the summer, having specifically targeted Timofey Mozgov of the Denver Nuggets and Kosta Koufos of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Sources say that the Cavs, in recent days, have been in contact with the Boston Celtics about working as a facilitator in three-team trade scenarios. The Celtics, blessed with frontcourt depth in the wake of their recent acquisition of Brandan Wright in the Rajon Rondo deal, have been aggressive recently in their attempts to acquire future draft picks.

I think Boston wants Waiters and/or a pick or a scoring guard from a third team.

Both Boston and Cleveland have a ton of flexibility with exceptions, un-guaranteed contracts and expirings.

Speculation is that Green and Sullinger could leave Boston- both have been sulking the last couple of games, and left the locker room tonight without talking to the media.

Green/Sullinger to MEM, Prince to BOS, Koufos to CLE for TPE, Waiters to BOS?

Green OR Sullinger (not both) for Waiters and 2 2nd round pick (Clev and Memphis)
Note-Celtics is 3rd team facilitators here
Green and Suli>>>>> than Prince and Waiters

I think the idea is that Boston can spare Sullinger- or Bass- because of their sudden front court depth.

You could probably build something around Green to MEM, Koufos/Bass to CLE, Waiters/1st to BOS. MEM could send Jordan Adams to Cleveland..

That Memphis pick is Ainge-bait. Green to MEM, Koufos to CLE, Prince/MEM 1st to BOS might be enough. But I think helping out a conference rival (again) merits some extra compensation, and as a Boston fan, I'd give up Sullinger or Bass to get Waiters.

The third team could be Sacramento (Jason Thompson), LA (Jordan Hill), Denver (Mozgov), or OKC (Perkins). We know the first three are available.. Perkins is a long shot (I don't think you guys want him).

What do you all think of this weird idea:

Thornton, Sullinger to CHA
Mozgov to CLE
Wallace, Stephenson, MEM 1st (via CLE) to DEN
Chandler, Waiters, Gee/Robinson/Arthur to BOS.

Basically you deal the MEM 1st and Waiters for Mozgov..

Eh I know dion is inconsistent but there is no way we get rid of him unless a scorer is coming back to the cavs. Our bench is finally showing some life.

Bah, we don't deal Waiters for Koufos what is wrong with you guys,
he's not good at all.
I only want mozgov and maybe an scorer replacement for Waiters. I don't mind him staying though as I see some improvements it's just a bummer we gave the 1st round pick to the Wolves

If we rid ourselves of Waiters to acquire Mozgov then hopefully we can add Ray Allen or someone who can shoot/score off the bench because we'd be pretty thin with points off the pine.

What is a team with Kevin Love going to do with Sullinger? If the Celtics aren't sending Bradley to Cleveland, then Waiters isn't going anywhere.

If the Cavs are sending out the Memphis 1st, the TPE and Waiters, then a defensive guard and a center need to come back. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense.

Its downright silly how little some people think Waiters is worth. I really don't think there is anyone that will help propel us to a championship so I see no point in overpaying for any of these players.

They need guard against giving up too much in the heat of the moment. Patience wins titles, not knee jerk reactions.

The things is our depth sucks, trading waiters for Mozgov helps one area and hurts another.

Yup, this is what I think the Cavs SHOULD do. Even if Love walks (Lebron would be the biggest pr*ck in the league if he left again), wouldn't you have cap to add a center? Kyrie/Lebron is enough for a 50-win team, and you wait to strike with your other pieces.

Waiters really has a bad rap/rep, though. Everyone on my board hates him, and I keep saying he's just in need of the right opportunity to be a 20 ppg guy. Even if it's a Monta Ellis in Milwaukee 20 per.. I don't know if it can happen in Cleveland, though, unless you guys start averaging 120 points a night..

This is why I think expectations need to be recalibrated. Guys like Ajinca or Sacre can be obtained without doing major damage in the future. No those guys won't win a title (I don't see that even being a possibility until next season), but they are functional replacements for Andy's minutes.

Been playing around with trades, is the following possible?

BOS sends Wright to MEM for Koufos and Jordan Adams- in two separate deals, CLE absorbs both newly acquired Boston players with chunks of the Bogans TPE.

The trick is to work out a follow-up deal sending compensation to Boston...

Signing a broken down Varejoe to 2 years beyond this one at 10 million a year is what did that. Everyone knew he wasn't going to stay healthy, and he never even seemed like a good fit at least some risk like Bogut would have been a better fit. He's played like 35 games a year the last few years.

I actually like Kofous and bigs carry more value than shooting guards, especially on his contract although it's up after this year I believe , either way you are going to have to pay Waiters at some point and I don't think I'd want to pay him very much, or Tristan Thompson as far as that goes.

I'd talk to NY and try to get Cole Aldridge, Dalembert and JR Smith. Those are at least defensive minded centers and Smith for all his warts is a scorer off the bench. He sucks in the triangle but the end of last year he was back to looking like he did his 6th man of the year year. You could probably get that trio at a decent price just to move JR SMith and his 6 million next year for very little, especially with Phil being a rookie GM and getting fleeced likely once already.
