Do you bring him back, and if so, for how much?

I don't think we have a choice. Plus I really like JR when he flows on offense when we have Kyrie and Love out there. But If he asks anything more than 7.5 then just let him go.

For me it's more a matter of how much guaranteed money he wants and for how long. I'm not giving him a multi year contract where most of the money is guaranteed. I don't trust the guy not to flake out.

I think he showed he has a low basketball IQ in the finals. Cavs should target other pieces IMO

Let him walk and sign Dunleavy Jr. (more consistent shooter and higher BBIQ)

Do you guarantee the last year or is it a team option? That third year is a deal breaker for me.

I want to be able to waive and stretch the guy if he goes full knucklehead. I'm not at all convinced that LBJ "fixed" JR.

Bring him back for a max of 2 years at no more than 6 mil per. He will go knucklehead at some stage, but not sure what other options the Cavs have.
Dunleavy Jr as mentioned aboce would be a good fit.

Don't make the mistake the Knicks made with him and Resign him! I knew sooner or later his dumb Azz was going to disrupt rhythm like he did with the Knicks a couple of years ago vs the Pacers in the playoffs!
JR is a Trash Brother along with Shump!

If he opted out of $6.4 mil, isn't he gonna want more than $6.4 mil next season? IDK know what he's thinking.

Way too streaky. His slumps hurt this team more than he helps when he catches fire.

Anyone who would be ok with jr walking obviously didn't watch the cavs before we traded for him. We absolute need his 3 point shooting. We were one of the top 3 point shooting teams in the league after the trade.
I know he didn't play well in the finals. But that's because he's a 4th option. He can't operate as a 2nd option. We seen that in NY. When this team is healthy he is great.
With that said I think 3 years 18M with 3rd year option is reasonable.

Our option or his?

We need JR. He really didn't do anything wrong, except not show up in the Finals and that's only because he wasn't ready for the moment and was forced into playing as the second option on offense, instead of the of fourth option when Kyrie and Love are playing. I'm confident Smith will be back. A 3 year $15-16 million contract sounds about right.
