DWade

Hello... just visiting to ask a question. I don't know the Cavs current money structure but given that Durant now is gonna be playing for the Warriors, what are the chances of DWade playing for you guys? Do you have enough space to sign him? Or what else can you do to acquire him? Who can you trade to open up some space not including Love and Kyrie of course. Thanks!

Hornets fan here and I came to post the same thing. Wish Wade would sign to play with his buddy LeBron and go beat the Warriors

Either LBJ has to take less or Wade has to play for the league minimum. I can't see it.

The Cavs have 76mil in cap used and the luxury tax line is 113mil.

So assuming that they bring back Jefferson and James Jones on min contracts and they sign their drafted point guard Kay Felder that would leave about 33mil before the tax line.

So it all depends on if Lebron and Wade are willing to take pay cut from what they could get (north of 30mil) or how much Gilbert is willing to pay in luxury tax. Last year, as you are aware, he paid 54mil.

It's not happening. We're just being used for leverage.

I think JR is a better fit anyway. Wade shoot 3s and his defense isn't what it use to be.

You can't seriously think your team is better off with JR then with Wade, can you?

The leverage thing maybe true but I can also it going the other way.

LeBron has a $30M cap hold. So, unless he re-signs first and for a significant pay cut, I don't see Wade coming. But who knows?

BTW, once a team decides to use cap space to sign a player, it is very unlikely they will ever reach the luxury tax threshold. Having just the Room MLE ($2.9M) and vet minimums afterward pretty much guarantees that.

This isn't 2009.

Yeah Wade is great I'm not doubting. But JRs 3s and his defense have been huge for us.

The bigger issue is that the Cavaliers would have to renounce their traded-player exceptions; some of which are quite valuable, and likely to yield rotational players. These include several small ones in the $3 mil range, and the $10.5 mil from the Anderson Varejao trade.

They could always sign Wade then, since you can go over the cap to sign your own players, sign Lebron to what he wants and any other guys to the min.

BTW I wasn't talking about them getting to the threshold (the point you literally can't spend any more). I know they wouldn't get that high up, I think it 189mil this year. I was talking about Gilbert having to pay another huge amount in luxury tax. The line you need to cross to start paying the tax is 113mil this year.

None of us know and crazier things have happened,

Yeah that is definitely more worrisome as I can see that as how they reload the team. Looks like they have the Varejao 10.5, 2.5 each from Miller and Hayward and just under a mil each from Harris and Cunningham. That can fill out the roster if just lebron signs.

That doesn't work. Until LBJ re-signs or is renounced by the Cavs, he counts for $30,300,000 against the Cavs' cap, preventing a Wade signing.

There are two avenues for Dwayne Wade to Cleveland.

As a free agent:
1) take the tax-payer MLE ($3.4 million) this year; or
2) convince Lebron to take $20 million this year so that he can take the non-taxpayer MLE ($5.6 million);

Sign-and-Trade:
3) Cavs trade $9.6 million TPE to Miami Heat for Dwayne Wade. Sign Wade to 4 year, $40.8 million deal with opt-out after year 1; 4) Cavs trade Iman Shumpert, Sasha Kaun, Dahntay Jones, (+Assets Cedi Osman, 2020 #1) to Miami (or anyone else who has something better to send to Miami) for Dwayne Wade signed to 4 year $70 million contract with opt-out after year 1.

Hey Cavs fans. I'm happy for Wade to sign league minimum then if one of you Cavs nuts start a gofundme I'll donate a $100 to Wade to help him get the money he deserves.
