If it doesn't count against the cap, Gilbert can spend whatever money he wants IMO. It's not like it will prevent him from firing a guy. Pretty sure he just finished paying Mike Brown and is still paying Blatt.

Dont care about the money just the length. You might say well its the same but it just highlights the level of incompetence offering an inexperienced guy 5 years.

I guess my point response is twofold: (1) The length of the contract is just how long GIlbert would have to pay him, not necessarily an indication of how long he'll be here. (2) For better or worse, Gilbert's still going to be in charge. So consider the overpay in terms of years the cost of doing business under that scenario. Gilbert's developing a reputation of the guy who's hard to work for who will get you paid. It's better than the guy who's difficult to work for and is cheap.

The man that went on ESPN and said the Cavs should trade Love for Carmello is going to be in charge of the front office. And a 5 year deal? Good Lord, this team never learns.
What qualifies billups to be head of a front office? No experience whatsoever. Playing basketball and running a team are two completely different things. I'm bummed.

The only thing that makes sense is that this is a move to try to keep LeBron around.
Now that PG and Butler are off the table, we still need to acquire someone to make us more athletic defensively against the Warriors.
Maybe the plan is to take a shot at the Warriors as constructed and wait a few years for some of these bloated contracts to become more tradable? I think a core of LeBron/Kyrie/Love could take the Warriors with some better athletic 3 and D types around them.

If you can't make a good trade, the next best thing you can do is not make a bad trade. I'm okay with tonight.
