Imagine if first quarter love was full game love. It’s so bizarre.

It's not. First off, he's a big man so if you don't pass it to him, he doesn't have the ball. If you don't make an effort to get it to him in the right spot in a timely manner, it's harder for him to get a good shot. It's not like this is some new phenomenon with big men either. He only got six shot attempts against the Hornets on Saturday while Korver, JR, & Crowder each took more than 10 jumpers.
Second, he's been playing out of position. Against certain line ups, it doesn't matter. Against other line ups, he's giving up almost four inches and 50 lbs against true centers. He's also playing next to an undersized PF in Crowder and a SF who only sometimes rotates & boxes out. There's a reason LBJ isn't trying to defend and box out true centers even though he's physically better suited for it. It takes a lot of energy.
Finally, Love's a confidence player. Now you can criticize him for that if you want but not every player in the NBA is an alpha. I'd rather have a guy like Love who plays really well when you make an effort to get him involved, and who can rebound even when you don't, than a guy like Melo who is going ISO chuck regardless of how he's shooting and gives you nothing else.
