Future Team Salary

Hi Cavs fans. I was just looking over your team salaries for the next few years, and I was wondering what direction you see the team going if James leaves.

You have a lot of guys for 2 more years. In the depleted east, I think you're still a playoff team if you keep it rolling. You could sign Hood to a small 2 year extension, then go for a ton of cap space after that. If you wanna tank to get assets before the FA splash though, that might not be ideal.

Would you rather try to shed those contracts?

Just curious what the trajectory might look like going forward.

Hill and Smith have small % partial guarantees after this year, that will equate to salary relief.
Most of the roster will stay in tact if Lebron were to leave this summer.
But that being said him opting out is the same movie we have seen before, and means nothing as it relates to Cleveland's odds of retaining the kid from Akron so, I'm not even interested in going down that road unless it happens.

I just realised we traded our 2019 pick for Kyle Korver to Atlanta. If Lebron leaves that pick might be top 5 unprotected. Oh lord

I think it says protected first pick on here:

Use basketball-reference.com. It's a much more accurate web site in terms of a team's cap situation. JR and Hill are gone after this year. That's like $30 million in savings. We could easily trade Kover for cap space and a second round pick as well. K. Love has P.O. next summer.

Protected 1-10 in 2019, if not conveyed, protected 1-10 in 2020. If not conveyed in 2020; then becomes unprotected 2nds in 2021 & 2022.
