2019 Off-Season Questions

Post#1 » by NYG » Sat Feb 9, 2019 5:23 am

1. Who are your free agents and what percentage would you put on them re-signing?

2. What are your team needs and the overall short term goals of the team?

3. Is there any reason your coach may not be in place next year?

4. Who are you willing to trade?

1. None really. If we trade JR for a bad contract, we'll have no cap space either.

2. Talent.

3. Drew may be gone if the right candidates become available.

4. TT, Love, and Clarkson are all potential trade pieces. But I suspect the Cavs ask may be higher than what the market will offer.

It is highly unlikely that the Cavs will agree with your Kevin Love evaluation for the purpose of a trade.

1. Nwaba,Frye,Chriss and Smiths basically expiring as his contract is only guaranteed for $3.87M and will be traded on draft night.
2. yeah short term goals are to lose/ develop... and they already did what they could to reload the draft asset locker...
maybe if lucky can get another 2nd or 2 for Smiths partial.
3. I think the Cavs are already looking for a tanking/ development coach as they will probably look to retain their lottery pick next season as well.
4. I agree with the above assessment

Henson starting to put up shots after wrist recovery, but is probably not playing this season imo. maybe last 10 games could see a few reps

Just curious, if Cleveland ended up picking 3rd Overall... Would you prefer drafting Ja Morant or Cam Reddish or trading for Brandon Ingram?

none of the above...is actually more likely.
assuming that scenario equates to Zion and Barrett being gone at 1 and 2, the Cavs would probably take somebody else.

How does Cavs ownership feel about the luxury tax?

Depends on two factors really. First is if they are contending for a title, if they are then Gilbert will go into the tax without thinking twice. The second is how good of a deal is it that they are getting to go into the tax, though it would need to be a VERY good deal for him to do it.

The Cavs need to stay out of the luxury tax next year in order to reset the repeater tax clock and that's exactly what they're going to do. They won't make a deal that puts them back in it.

I'm taking Morant if those are the options. I might trade back for Ingram, but I'd need the Lakers pick back if we were parting with a top 3 pick.

What would it take to be convinccd to trade out of drafting Morant? Let’s say the lottery pushes the Suns out of the top 3? Is T.J. Warren, 5th and Bucks 1st enough?

Probably not. Not that the Cavs have a huge need for Morant but I think Morant and Sexton could work in the back court together not to mention the dropoff in talent going back to #5 from Morant is still a lot bigger than what Warren and the Bucks 1st would provide.
