If we were not tied with the Suns and had a chance at the 2 spot, I would want them to finish with a win, but just can't do it...gotta lose

I'm taking Ja if he's on the board. I'd probably hold onto Sexton for a bit and see if he takes another step, but as of now, he's not good enough to make pass on Ja.

Yeah I have been thinking that makes sense for awhile given Ja seems to have the highest floor of any high ceiling guard in this draft and given his elite court vision and passing I think the Cavs would definitely consider moving Sexton off ball full time if they can get Morant. Sexton has done well in that role since the break and has shown flashes of making the right passes and improving as a floor general as well when bringing the ball up, but the difference between him and Morant in that category is significant.
On the other hand, with the improvement Sexton made so fast, they may feel the two cannot share the back court due to lack of defense as a result of their optimism about their 2018 draft pick , take somebody else. I mean Barrett,Culver and Bol are pretty decent consolation prizes for passing on Ja and may even be able to get another pick or player out of it if trading down.
I would take Mikal Bridges and the 3rd for the 2nd if I was sold Barrett will play defense at the next level, same goes with if Bol clears medicals.

Some days, I have concerns that Sexton is just good enough to get you beat if you try to build around him. When Kyrie was the best player on our roster we topped out at 33 win team. As the best player on the Celtics roster, it's an open question as to whether they're a legitimate contender. I don't know that Sexton will ever be as good as Kyrie but he shares a lot of the same flaws.

Sexton is not the best player on the roster once the rebuild is over or they are not a contender...but 2nd best; maybe. I mean if his ceiling remains high due his relentless work ethic & is therefore is far from achieved, which given the amount of improvement in one season we have witnessed, it seems likely he actually does have all star potential in a couple years. But yeah if he peaks before that level which is certainly possible then he is the 3rd best player on a contender. Right now I think given his determination,he will remain a key part of the roster regardless of who they pick up to improve the roster including Ja.
I am not entirely sold they could share the backcourt without giving up too much defensively, but I'm also not sold it isn't worth finding out first provided other options don't check enough boxes if that proves to be the case.
I can find flaws in every prospect in the lottery this year including Zion and Ja, but what it comes down to for me is who gives the Cavs brass the most confidence to fix the flaws and who has the "sexton" mentality to put the work in. I think there is a very strong argument that RJ has the same fire and mentality and could very easily be their guy with the highest upside after Zion even if the more complete game of Ja Morant or the elite length and shooting ability of Bol or the defensive prowess of Culver/Hunter etc is staring them in the face.
