I like Sexton going forward better than the type of player Garland looks to be at least from a developmental viewpoint. I think Darius will be a high level shooter and a reliable offensive threat at minimum as a 6th man long term, but I am more confident in Sexton earning starter minutes long term instead of just having them handed to him on a tanking team.
I really hope we'd didn't select a guy with a top 5 pick in order to make him a sixth man.

yeah I think ultimately we did but hopefully I am wrong
Honestly, I think it's far more likely that Sexton ends up in the sixth man role. He speed he plays at isn't amenable to ball movement or assist opportunities.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Sexton was bad on defense and needs to get coached up in that area but for the most part was trying so my expectation from Garland is that he will not play hard on that side of the ball and will be in a lot of ways what Kyrie was early on anyway so of course he would start with Sexton in the beginning but Garlands poor defense ( if it stays that way) will relegate him to a scoring specialist off the bench not a lead high usage one.

I do think Sexton and Garland can compliment each other offensively - they are not the same player. As for defense? Well, if we ran a system that made it a little more difficult than setting a screen to get an open layup; there's actually some hope.

Meaning, let's consider that if these guys aren't just simply getting exploited for easy dunks ... what are opponents going to do? Post 'em up and exploit their height? Well, that's an invitation to score 2pts at a time to our 3. Cavs win 140-120, which is actually a viable strategy in this day and age if you have the dynamic shooters.

But mostly ... figuring out the defense can wait.

Goal #1 in a rebuild should be to build up your assets, not win games artificially so you continue to get the picks you need and you build value that at the very least can be traded for fit.

I personally never liked Monta Ellis ... never felt he was a winning player, but the W's did get Bogut and SJax for him while their fan base cried over losing his 22 & 6 while ignoring his 51.6 TS%.

Collin will benefit from better floor spacing and playing with shooters. He can contribute with his slashing and his ability to knock down open 3's; and he just can't be the sole play-maker on the floor. The new guys are all dynamic shooters who will generate gravity and create offense. When you put 4 or 5 guys on the floor who can all shoot 40%+ from 3pt, defenses can't cheat ... and then it's just a matter of picking and choosing the best plan of attack depending what the opponent is struggling to defend.
