CLE trades Love/Osman/Sexton for Morris/Kennard
The Cavaliers upgrade their rotation while trimming payroll and creating a new $17mil TPE.
Garland, Okoro, Morris, Markkanen, Allen
Rubio, Kennard, Windler, Wade, Mobley

LAC trades Morris/Kennard/22LAC2nd/25DET2nd/25LAC2nd/28LAC1st for Simmons/Osman
The Clippers push all-in for the perfect addition: a star playmaker and versatile defender.
Jackson, George, Leonard, Simmons, Zubac
Bledsoe, Mann, Osman, Batum, Ibaka

PHI trades Simmons for Love/Sexton/22LAC2nd/25DET2nd/25LAC2nd/28LAC1st
The Sixers cut bait on a talented malcontent, and return an elite young scorer, a veteran stretch big and future picks.
Sexton, Green, Thybulle, Harris, Embiid
Maxey, Milton, Korkmaz, Love, Drummond
This is closer without Sexton. Both Kennard and Morris are way overpaid for what they bring and their contracts go on for longer than Love and Cedi.

Now if the Cavs are suffering through another miserable season, and things aren't working out with Sexton, I'd be willing to revisit this. But I'd rather see how it goes with an eye towards getting off the shorter contracts sooner.

It is highly unlikely that the Cavs will agree with your Kevin Love evaluation for the purpose of a trade.

If that actually worked for Philly, I imagine the Cavs would cut the Clippers out and just take Simmons; but rumors are they don't want Love, prefer Garland, and want more first rounders with little to no protection.

It doesn’t really say anything

Does a combination of Collin Sexton, Kevin Love and draft picks appeal to the 76ers?

If that question was posed in 2017, the answer would have been a resounding yes -- because of the play (and health) of Love.

Now, Love is anything but the All-Star he once was and the $60 million left on his contract is seen as dead weight.

Sexton is one of the top players under the age of 25 and is coming off a career season in which he averaged 24.3 points per game. But he is a restricted free agent (if there is no extension reached by Oct. 18), and Philadelphia would need to have a comfort level in committing to a lucrative contract.

Edited. Yes, there is no actual information in the article, just musings.

I have a feeling Simmons is going to be a malcontent wherever he ends up traded. Kyrie was the same way, very talented albeit with a few warts, but Kyrie grew up a bit pampered in Australia like Simmons and never seemed happy playing basketball. The Sixers catered to Ben even trading away Butler who took the ball out of Simmons' hands. It's just my perception that Simmons wouldn't be happy in Cleveland long term either.

I sure hope Kyrie was pampered in Australia... his family left when he was 2 ... sounds like Ben didn't get enough time there reportedly his teammates in FIBA play called him "yank".

Summarizing that article-

Group one-Teams that have assets(including a true impact player) to deal for Simmons and are a good fit
Portland-CJ McCollum biggest asset
Cleveland-see above
Indiana-lots of tradeable contracts but unsure if they want to make a move before coach Rick Carlisle has time to evaluate roster
T-Wolves-Would need to trade a lot of first round picks to get it done. Also may need to find third team to dump D Russell on if Philly doesn't want him
Spurs-lots of tradeable contracts and talent that the sixers could use, but haven't made an in season trade in 9 years.
Raptors-Not sure what the philly spacing would be if they traded Siakam straight up to the sixers. Might brick up Philly's front court. Dragic and Antounoby work monetarily wise, but they'd need to attach significant draft assets.

Group 2-assets available but fit issues-
Boston
Atlanta
Golden State
New Orleans

Group 3-4 everyone else.

Wondering what you guys are hoping for if Sexton ends up getting traded by the deadline. Not necessarily looking for a package from my team (NYK), just trying to get a sense of the kind of value you guys expect.

If Sexton is willing to accept a Ginobli/OKC-Harden role, I don't see him getting traded at all. We'll see how it goes but until someone puts a decent two-way wing with size on the table, I don't really see the Cavs having something to think about.

Officially the Cavs want a wing with star potential that fits the timeline of their other young players, but if the team keeps seeing success; I wonder if they might consider an older veteran who can just step in and push this young group forward.

Otoh, I've always maintained Sexton has a role on this team and we saw it last night .vs. the Clippers. It's not like the Cavs have someone else on the roster who can get buckets the way Collin can and they sure needed them.

If the team keeps seeing success they might not want to trade him period. Why mess with a good thing. Also the Cavs lack a true consistent scoring threat so trading Sexton before one establishes themselves would be bad.

As I've said before, Sexton's role on the Cavs is the same as Bookers on the Suns. Go out and score 24+ PPG, try on defense, but that's going to largely be taken care of by the defensive specialists on the court with him. Sure it would be nice if Sexton was a +defender while being a 24+ ppg scorer, but those are so damn rare.

Well, jbk has been emphasizing how Collin needs to improve on D. I've personally been emphasizing smaller steps like Collin being willing to be part of the offense rather than always stopping it and looking to get his when the ball swings to him. There's a time and place for an ISO hero, but our offensive efficiency should be driven by getting shots for our bigs and setting up our shooters.

Speaking of ... hopefully Collin, Kevin, and Lauri find their 3pt shots sometime soon ...

I really think the Cavs are trying to implement a Spurs type offense. If a team like the Clippers sells out trying to shut down our bigs, overplays passing lanes, etc. then it will be time for Sexton and Garland to go to work. But I really don't see us running a guard centric offense this year.

Yep, Ricky recognizes what's going on, reads the defense, and that's why he magically ends up with easy layups and dishes in the paint. Hopefully Garland and Sexton are realizing how much easier their job can be if they learn to read the defense correctly.

Trade Idea: Don't make any moves asides from getting one wing PJ Tucker-ish.

Return to Cleveland Cavaliers
