Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Memphis Grizzlies 10/20/2021

PRIOR TO GAME

The Cavs will meet the Grizzlies in season-opener.

Last season these two teams met each other twice, both picking up a win. Neither predicted as a contender for this season so this could go either way although in all fairness, the Cavs have played in obscurity the past three seasons while Grizzlies showed more life last season ending up with a .528 record. The Cavs will have their hands full, that's for sure.

CAVALIERS STACKED WITH YOUTH

Mobley, Sexton, Okoro, Garland even Markkanen are all young players with the future ahead of them. Plus they are all possible starters. For the Cavs this season will be determined by how the young guns can handle the burden of being the ultimate key players.

Many eyes will be on No 3. pick, Evan Mobley. Can he show leadership from the beginning and make the Cavs play hard?

GRIZZLIES RELY ON YOUTH AS WELL

Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. - enough said.

FINAL WORDS

Share us your views on:

- Which team do you expect to win?
- What kind of game do you expect to see from both teams?
- What will be the key factors in getting the win?
- Outside of the obvious key players from both teams, who should a casual fan keep an eye on?

Discuss & enjoy the game, folks!

Fedor is reporting that the Cavs plan to start Lauri and bring Isaac off the bench.

Very good to hear.

Anything else, anyone else?

Hmm, might be a case of an aggregator getting carried away because looking at Fedor's twitter feed and the article he recently wrote, I don't think he has flat out said that Lauri will start just made it seem likely.

Just to let you know, we can discuss about other players as well.

We just need some actual game play that counts and we should have plenty to talk about.

The injury report is out, not sure what's up with Windler and Wade:

Dean Wade, Status Day-to-day
Wade (ankle) is doubtful for Wednesday's season opener against the Grizzlies.

Dylan Windler, Status Out
Windler (hip) won't play in Wednesday's contest against Memphis.

Once again, the dream of Dylan Windler having a full healthy season ends before it's even begun.

I agree. I just always find it fascinating if and how any pre-game predictions will come about. After all, we're here to speculate... just you and me it seems. :-?

I think I'd be more worried if some designated starter would be on IR before the season-opener.

It's hard to have any sort of feel for this team. My only hope is the Cavs make the game interesting enough I don't fall asleep on it or end up fast forwarding huge chunks.

I mean if the pre-season meant anything, I'd have to predict the Cavs losing 135 to 95.

Wow... I think they did better than ok.

I'll go out on a limb and say a win is not out of the question. At worst I could see them lose by 20 points. I guess I'm what you call a homer.

Well, the last few preseason lineups had Markkanen at SF and those lineups did fine, so we may as well run it out there when the games count and see if the trend continues. I can see that being a matchup-dependent decision with Markkanen moving to the bench, possibly only on the nights where Love is a DNP-rest.

I'm primarily going off what our starting backcourt did together in pre-season.

In the 3 games they both played, they were 25 for 68 (37%) with 18 assists and 25 turnovers.

Were there positive signs from other players and other lineups?

Sure, but we're not winning anything if Sexland is playing like hot garbage.

I'm excited to see Lauri at the 3. Been calling for it since his rookie season

Sexton has had control of the offense 3 times so far. Passed down to Lauri in the post who missed, scored on a PNR, and made a great pass from under the rim to Lauri for a missed corner 3...

Garlandas is hurt... let's see if his ankle holds on

So far so good.

The game is pityfully discombulated but you can see some intent to play some recognizable style. Quick actions when possible, lot of ball movement without stallin' the ball when not.

Garlandas looks OK. He has flexible ankles.

Garland and Sexton can't play together. News at 11.

Also, Lauri is quite possibly the worst rebounder who's 7 feet tall that I've ever seen.
