Agbaji had a good game first time out.

Really, all we need him to do is space the floor so our best players can go to work and play passable defense.
Can always put Sylla on an Exhibit 10, if he's willing.JonFromVA wrote:jbk1234 wrote:RCM88x wrote:Played alright, reassuring. Feels like he kinda has a chance to make an impact on the rotation which I like.

lol, I'll take whatever he's got to give, and this is our first chance to see what that might be as he competes against the next step up over NCAA.
What we might not get to see is Agbaji in motion ... which takes a little more planning than Summer league usually permits, but it's TBD if JBB will try to use him that way.
His shot looks good, but would like to see him do something in an area we're not expecting - like rebounding, blocks, steals, passing, driving, etc. He's a featured player in Summer league, so there should be no scheme holding him back from trying things.
RJ Nembhard played well and he's starting to make a claim to steal some minutes from Neto.
Sylla had a nice game. Too bad we've only got the 2 two-way contracts or he could be another developmental big.
Mobley showed some of what he can do but didn't have much success. Perhaps feeling the bright lights playing in front of his brother? He did have 8 rebounds and 3 assists which the coaches will like.
Travers as we heard was hustling all over and finished with 4 blocks, but certainly nothing at this point to change plans over.

Idk if it's directly related to what you said but it made me think, I am hopeful Walton can add anything to the offense to make it stagnant less. If that's realistic or not, idk but that's my hope for this upcoming season.JonFromVA wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:I don't have ESPNU or NBATV, so I won't be catching any of their first 4 games.
Watch for highlights or even full games on YouTube if you care, albeit not much of interest in this last game .vs. Denver, other than a lesson in how useless players like Mobley, Agbaji, Travers, and Sila are likely to be if the ball isn't moving and guys are just trying to create hero shots.

There's levels to this for sure lolJonFromVA wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:Idk if it's directly related to what you said but it made me think, I am hopeful Walton can add anything to the offense to make it stagnant less. Me too, albeit just getting/staying healthy and then getting Ricky back could do wonders.
Gotta keep in mind our intended starting lineup only managed to play 66 minutes together, and the one that replaced it when Sexton went down only played 221.
With so many players in and out of rotations, it's pretty typical to simplify and dumb things down.
I'm also hoping Ricky comes over ASAP because his experience is invaluable. Walton was a decent passer as a player and certainly saw first hand how the Warrior's operated, but Ricky's in another stratosphere as a PG.

Idk what kinda offense/action(s) Walton was known for when he was HC of the Kings and Lakers. I'm pretty sure when he filled in for the Warriors as HC, he was just running Kerr's sets.
I liked what Walton brought as a player, his 2 years on the Cavs.

This article will give you some idea what he might try to add to our offense if given the chance (as well as how it might fail if it doesn't fit / the player's don't stick to it):

Appreciate the share, that actually makes me less optimistic. Maybe an old dog can learn new tricks. JBB is the HC and Buckner is the aHC, so maybe Walton gets no say in the offense and was brought in for a different reason.JonFromVA wrote:JujitsuFlip wrote:There's levels to this for sure lolJonFromVA wrote:

Technically speaking JBB isn't an "old dog" even if he has some old school ways mixed in with some new school, but I yeah I wouldn't assume Walton is simply handed the reigns to the offense and allowed to do whatever he wants. Presumably the staff will be able to offer ideas and JBB will sort through them and decide what he wants to try and who on the staff will do what.
And while I imagine Walton isn't the only assistant on the staff who can help the players understand how to use ghost screens - being a former player and working under Kerr should help him get buy-in and interest from the players.

Not to mention that Walton has been a hc in the league. I doubt he came here to be a useless appendage, there has to be something he brings to the table other than just being a guy on the coaching staff.

Yeah, unfortunately even a good performance in Summer league doesn't mean much, but it's nice to see Ochai doing the things we expected he'd be able to do given his physical development and experience level.
For instance, here's Isaac's highlight package from last year:
My hope is we see him starting to do this more consistently at the NBA level this season.
