I know most of us have a low opinion of him, but want to thank him for his time here.

I honestly assume he could get another HC job on a rebuilding team or as an assistant coach.

2 years late but finally. Now I can actually have hope again

Atkinson is mildly interesting but Borrego? No thanks

Lets goooooooo, about time. 5 seasons too long. Ready to turn the page. If Kenny becomes the coach, he will probably wanna retain Allen.

My brother text me and told me, I'm like about time. At least the new coach will be able to have full input on this huge summer for us.

I still think Allen needs moved if you want to maximize Mobley.

Now is the time to do it. I think he’s pretty much at peak value

It’s wild to me that after everything you’ve seen you still think he can be a head coach in the NBA

He was fine when we were rebuilding *shrug*

Seems like a flier hire for a team like the Wizards. He built a good culture with young players here and can start that process elsewhere

I think the pendulum has swung too far on the JB hate train even if I think he should have been let go from the Cavs

I think the Cavs will regret this. I just don't see a better option right now-- the leaders for the job like Atkinson and Borrego are arguably as flawed and have less of a track record than JBB. The only coach who does have a track record is Vogel, and he's been fired twice in two years. I think Budenholzer lucked into his title, but I guess that's the way things go...

I guess I'm rooting for Micah Nori or Chris Quinn?

Yeah, a team could do lot worse than have a young engaged team that plays hard and defends, and JBB didn't design the roster, he just worked with it.

The sticking point is going to be ... who doesn't want a coach who listens to analytics and wants to run a modern offense in this day and age?

You'd have to have some Wizards-sized organizational problems to settle for what JBB will bring.

I have no idea how to evaluate coaches I haven't seen be head coaches so with them I just hope the stories about them are true.

As for Atkinson, Borrego, Vogel, or Bud, eh. With Vogel or Bud, it feels like just a change of a voice. I think I've heard so much good about Atkinson after he was let go for Nash, but I think its just comparing something somewhat shiny to something dull.

Apparently, Borrego innovated the Charlotte offense, but both had bad defensive personal and bad defensive planning.

Its really hard to judge a coach's ability without watching a huge bulk of their coached games so I am really just repeating what I've heard from other fanbases.

Honestly, a change of voice is fine. I still think things just got toxic with JB, the FO, and potentially the players and he was the easy one out.

It's a unique moment in time where a coach coming in could help direct which way the team goes. We also get to hear them talk about our team from an outside the org perspective. Some of the guys we'll talk to were responsible for coming up with game plans to beat us (or lose to us).

I get why the re-treads are going to be on top of some of these lists, but unless Steve Kerr is suddenly fired I doubt any of them are going to be specifically qualified to step in turn around a team that's been running clunky defensive oriented lineups.

The Cavs have a history (for various reasons) of hiring top assistants and we could easily go back to that well unless Dan finds his next Beilein or Blatt, those names just aren't on the tip of most people's tongues like the cast of retreads.

Sometimes the Cavs even borrow ideas from the Cleveland Baseball Club, so, it wouldn't surprise me if they become fixated on finding their own version of Stephen Vogt.

Nah, no regrets. This was a much needed change and long overdue.

You can have Monty if you’ll take his contract. Heck, I’ll even throw in a pick swap in this turd draft, all the way up to #5. That’s how badly I want him gone. :)

Well, I've cautioned we could do worse than JBB, but I'm sure there are some creative but unproven options out there. I hadn't even heard of / noticed Micah Nori before the other day and know nothing about Chris Quinn. Sound like someone who played for can't remember,.

Under Dan, we've never hired a coach or a GM with all the right credentials. It's always an adventure as they learn on the job.

I personally don't care if we do worse. This summer is so huge on so many levels, the timing was perfect.

Well, if we wanted Budenholzer the timing was pretty crappy.

Big roll of the dice if we hand the team for the next 2 years to an unproven coach and staff, but at least it will be something different and hopefully with significant upside.

He did take a team that was imploding under Beilen and get it to the play-in despite all of Rubio, Allen, and Sexton going down with injuries. He did that pretty quickly with a roster that people were laughing at in terms of construction.

I don't think he's a good in-game coach. I think he struggles to identify matchup problems- both ways.

In terms of what's next, Atkinson has been one of the most highly sought after assistants for a couple years now. The Hornets thought they hired him before he declined and went back to GS. The Lakers reportedly were interested and I don't know that he gave them an interview. If there's mutual interest, he's worth exploring.

When the Cavs hired Blatt, we also made Lue the highest paid assistant in history so he'd have someone with NBA coaching experience on his staff. Lue eventually took over and we won a Championship so I don't know that you can rule out top assistant coaches.

Any chance that this helps pave the way to LeBron?

Can join Cavs and be involved in coaching selection but he doesn't get the coach killer hit because coach was fired prior?

Mitchell/Garland
Okoro
LeBron
Mobley
Allen

That's a team that would fit well with Vogel
