Hey Cavs fans, Just wanted to know if in an expansion draft what 8 players are you protecting? Remember 1 player must be unprotected from the draft and player/team options can also be protected. Thanks guys. Also what would you be willing to give up to protect one of your players from not being selected.

Just for the argument, I am going to assume this starts the following year (so we don't have the knowledge we do now going into this season).

First four are easy:
Garland
Mitchell
Mobley
Allen

Last four would probably be:
Strus
Okoro
Wade
Tyson

Leaving Niang and Craig Porter Jr unprotected (the Cavs would hope Niang gets selected so we get off his salary)

Jerome, LeVert, and Merrill are all UFAs so they can be ignored (unless they get re-signed later in the season)

1a. Mitchell
1b. Mobley
1c. Garland
1d. Allen

Those are the easy ones to get outta the way, the next 4 are a little bit more tricky.

5. Wade (been a good starter)
6. Strus (i personally like him)
7. LeVert (ik he's expiring but is valuable)

The final protection spot is rough.

8. TJ (Cavs don't have his full bird rights so this spot should actually go to Okoro but w.e)

This is a little murky, If the Cavs can protect 8 players, aren't there 6 players unprotected?

This is a little murky, If the Cavs can protect 8 players, aren't there 6 players unprotected?

I guess he's saying if a team only had 8 guys under contract, they couldn't protect all 8.

Since expansion drafts happen in the summer, it's possible.
