Can we move in and/or possibly up in the draft?

Post#1 » by eyejayem » Wed Jan 16, 2008 5:34 pm

I just wanted some feed back. Since this is a deep draft can we get back into the second rd and possibly more.

Can Ira Newble's expiring get us a second rder?
Can Shannon Brown(I read an article at how he is at ends with Cavs organization he is not going to resign, I believe we should trade him) get us an early second rder?
Can Cedric Simmons get us a second rder?
Can any two aboved combine to get us a late 1st rder?
Can all three get us in the middle of the 1st?
How about if we took on a bad contract but moved into the top 15?
Should we use both picks or try to trade up for one?

We have about a month to figure something out.

I was under the assumption that Ferry declined Brown's option to use him as an expiring in a large trade.

However as more time passes it's starting look like he just made a dumb move. Brown isn't a star, but at ~$1.1MM he is worth keeping around for his upside alone. He barely played last year due to injury and has shown enough flashes he might develop into a decent bench player.

We certainly won't get anything better at that price.

No team will trade us anything for him btw, why bother when he's a FA in a few months.

i wouldn't care who we traded to move into the top 15 as long as it's not andy or gibson

ferry doesn't have the imagination to pull of anything remotely to what you suggest op. i doubt the gibson contract will go smoothly either.

Speaking of Gibson's contract, I was watching Access Cavaliers today on a very boring Sunday afternoon while waiting for the playoff games to get started and Freddy Mac interviewed Boobie. D Gibz basically said that he absolutely loved the city and the fans and is looking forward to all sorts of future success here. Then McLeod said something like, just dont tell that to Ferry this offseason when its time to talk contract, right? Daniel laughed and said yea, lets keep that a secret.

Take it for what its worth, if anything at all.

Oh and noticed how I used a different name for the Gibster every time? Yea, thats creativity.

Although they should draft the best available player, if it comes down to between a 4 year college senior and a talented guy with more upside, I think the Cavs are at the point where they could use the immediate contribution from the college senior.

Take the talented guy with more upside. Taking a 4 year college senior gets you Luke Jackson instead of Al Jefferson, Andris Biedrins or Josh Smith.

The four year college senior can also get you Tim Duncan rather than Stromile Swift.

College seniors are fine. Tayshaun Prince and Josh Howard were college seniors.

The Suns would probably part with the ATL pick for Gooden, but I don't see why you guys would do that....

A couple mocks I saw didnt even have Chris Lofton getting drafted. I've liked that kids game for a couple years now.

How about Jamar Butler? Dude is lights out from behind the arc (has NBA range), rarely turns the ball over, and is a solid PG. Can score in bunches (check out his 32 pt massacre of Illinois, or his 27 pt, 9 dimes against Minnesota). Lebron already knows his game, and probably wouldn't mind it if the Cavs were to pick him up in the 2nd round, or sign him after the draft. Would fit in well with the Cavs I think.

I dont think Jamar gets drafted, but if he does it wont be by us in the second round since we dont have a second round pick.
