Game 40: Cavaliers at Heat

Post#1 » by LoveThemCavs » Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:41 am

Image at Image

When: Monday, January 21st
Where: American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL
Time: 8pm ET
TV: TNT

Wade and LeBron show take center stage again. Both of their teams not living up to the billing. Miami is in obviously tough times, trying to avoid their 14th straight loss. Cavs have been playing better lately, though living on the edge in most of them. Just by the fact that Miami is on such a long losing skid worries me. Just seems to be the type of game our guys fall asleep at the wheel. The Heat are playing very bad right now though, so I'd have to think we'll win. I'll pick the hometown team though(usually do), Cavs by 12. I'm ready for this team to put it together and push for that 4 seed.

Would be anyone actually surprised if we lost this game? I mean, coming from the road win against the Spurs, playing one of the worst teams in the league who didn't win in a month, this is the kind of game the Cavs always seems to lose.

Plus the fact that the fellas had all night last night in South Beach... It probably means their luggage and Drew Gooden arent the only things that are gonna be MIA tonight. Hopefully they can work through their hangovers enough by the 4th quarter to pull this one out. I just love having a team of partyers.

You are not the only one. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we blew this game

The Heat aren't gonna keep losing forever, and carrying a 13 game losing streak they will be eager to break it ESPECIALLY on TNT with Barkley ripping them.

If Lebron comes out focused early, we prob win. If he comes out coasting thinking he can win the game late, I honestly think we lose

I'm yet willing to make a gentleman's bet that Barkley will rip on the Cavs even more, and predict that the Heat will win this game. He will do so after referring to the Cavs and Heat as "practically the same teams, both of 'em wasting their superstars and going nowhere fast. But at least the Heat will get a good draft pick after this season to help Wade out."

57% chance he makes a reference to the Cavs being "the luckiest team to ever make the finals," and reiterates that they won't make the playoffs this year.

It all saddens me so. Don't know why. Perhaps I'm petty.
Things I want to get in 2008:
1) A sticker from Dwight Howard's "sticker dunk" to put up in my office (to be applied to the wall in the same manner)
2) A standard poster of the gigantic LeBron poster downtown.
3) 1000 posts!

Woah! We just posted at the same time, so can I take credit for my prediction of this in the above post? :)

You can take credit cause I like you.

Oh and he just ripped LeBron for wearing pink to the game, and again guarenteed the Heeterz would win.

Aw, thanks :)

What was his justification? Or was it generalized hate again?

Ah yes. The NBA, it's fan-tastic. Or rather (to borrow a technique from Bill Simmons)

The NBA

Where unsubstantiated hatred happens.
Where overpaid announcers who haven't won anything happens.
Where hidden jealousy happens.
Where Barkley happens.

Miami might win tonight. I don't think that'd surprise any of us but Barkley was just saying it to have something to say and Wilbon is a Chicago homer. Neither one of them really matter in this case.

That's exactly right, Outlaw. My stomach cringes at the thought of the Cavs playing a part in ending a 13-game losing streak, but the least Barkley could do is provide some analysis akin to what you folks have done in this thread (partying team, prone to letdowns). To merely state a "guarantee" without any analysis is just hatred for hatred's sake, and (to stand up on a soap box) serves to contribute to the decline of sports journalism in America. Sensible analysis should win out over sensationalism.

Anyhoo, the good thing about this Barkley stuff is that it's slowly advancing me (plodding, rather) toward 1000 posts :)

On the topic of the game, I am perplexed at why the Heat are doing so poorly. Old age, sure. Poor supporting cast, sure. But such a precipitous decline is beyond anything anyone anticipated. What scares me most about this game is that it's clear Wade and LeBron have a rivalry, and to the extent this game stays close until the 4th quarter (which it surely will), I become very nervous that Wade wins it. While LeBron's been superlative in the 4th quarter this year, I've seen a growing tendency (especially at the end of the games) for him to rely on that fadeaway jumper from 19 feet.

He really didn't even sound convincing. He pointed out that the Heat's next game was versus the Spurs and said he didn't know when they'd get a win. Then he said, they'll win today kinda sheepishly and then firmed up the comment.

Not yet tonight. Actually I havent heard him say that this year yet. Although he did say that Daniel Gibson should be starting before the Spurs game.

LOL at the Bulls getting run by the Grizz. I absolutely love the fact that the Bulls were everyone's preseason pick for taking the East. Hilarious. I wonder where my boy Free Money is at. Havent got an update from him on how his team is doing in a while.
