I'll take that as a compliment. Thank you.
jnester71 wrote:FIRST - How do you wait for Lowry in free agency when Memphis can control him until 2011/20012.. he is under contract for next year and they have a team option for the year after and beyond..
Memphis controls him through 2010/2011 (you added a year)
jnester71 wrote:SECOND - WHY CAN'T THEY KEEP ALL THREE POINT GUARDS?
COMBINED they make about 6.5 million next year.. that ain't breaking anyones bank.. the truth is they have to fill out a roster and those guys are the perfect players to do that with.. young, cheap and talented
The reason they cannot keep all three point guards has nothing to do with Memphis being able to pay for the contracts they are under. Rather, it has to do with 3 point guards who are young and ALL want playing-time. If Memphis keeps all three point guards, then they will end-up having a locker-room problem. Young players want a chance to prove themselves and to PLAY. There are only 48 minutes in a game, so they are going to HAVE to get rid of at-least one of them. In-addition, if they erratically play all 3 PGs, and never settle on a clear #1 and clear #2, then the players around them will have a problem developing any cohesion and continuity.

jnester71 wrote:THIRDLY - It doesn't matter who is better out of Magliore and Newble... the expirings you are comparing.. Memphis isn't making the playoffs this year. They wouldn't be acquiring either of those guys to resign them to build around next year dude.
Really? I hadn't thought of that (sic). The reason Newble is a BETTER trade
is because he makes LESS than Mags (though not much less), thus Memphis would have to PAY HIM LESS. In-addition, Ira Newble would actually be able to HELP develop the young talent Memphis has while he is there, due to his work-ethic and attitude.
jnester71 wrote:FOURTH - If Memphis showed their "hole card" by giving up Gasol why haven't they just accepted the Nets trashy offer? The truth is they are in pretty good shape right now. They don't have to move anyone else at all. They are obviously having a youth movement but Mike Miller has a great team first attitude and isn't breaking the bank. Gasol is soft and had said multiple times he wanted out. Probably not the mentor Miller is/would be. They MAY deal Miller, but they are certainly not in a position of weakness and desperation in doing so.
Weakness? They already showed their card! Gasol for 2 picks? That is the definition of weakness!!! Kobe demanded a trade too...did LA trade him for two picks? As for them not taking the Nets "trashy" offer, I cannot say why...Perhaps they are in negotiations with another team? What I do know, is the fact that New Jersey even made
THAT offer, shows exactly what other GMs think of Memphis' "position."
And BTW... Mike Miller was quoted as saying that he "expects" to be traded. He also said he'd welcome the change of scenery. That may not be a "demand," but it does tell us what Mike is thinking: He hopes to get traded to a contender!
jnester71 wrote:LAST - Why wouldn't Lowry bring a first rounder? He just cost a first rounder last year! He didn't get any worse in the 60 games he's played since then. There are a LOT of teams in need of a PG. Especially a 21 year old with first round talent.
It doesn't matter what he cost
THEN, it matters what he is worth NOW! Apparently not much, as Memphis spent their #4 pick on Conley... That sure did show how "confident" they were in picking Lowry @ #21 (one pick before Shannon Brown) in 2006!
And don't tell me they took Conley because he was the best available. What did they (Memphis GM) think...That Conley's 11 points and 6 dimes as a rookie surrounded by a ton of talent was so good they couldn't pass it up? If they were confident in Lowry, then they would have spent that pick on Big AL Horford, or Li Juliani.
jnester71 wrote:I'd bet there's several GMs that would love to give Lowry a chance to live up to his draft status and I gaurantee Memphis isn't just giving up on the guy after only 60 games and changing coaches. At this point he's done nothing to show he wasn't worthy of their pick.
I'd bet that you are 100% right! There are a BUNCH of GM's that would love to give him a shot to live-up to his potential...Just not for a first round pick.
As for the second part (in bold)... If he had done nothing to show he wasn't worthy of the pick...then why did they take Conley? Seems to me that if they believed in him, that Conley would be playing for a different team right now.
I like Lowry. I think he has potential. I
don't believe that the Cavs will give a #1 for him. He is a good defender, but he gets beat by quicker guards, he is short, so cannot shoot over his opponent, and he only shoots 40% when he does get a shot off. If he was 6'4-6'6 with his same abilities, then the Cavs would give-up a #1. As it is, Lowry is 5'11 (barely) without shoes. This draft is DEEP in point guards, and the Cavs can get what they want with that pick as opposed for settling for another team's reject.
And answer me this: If he was so damn talented, then wouldn't the Grizz want to keep him? Since they are selling the franchise, wouldn't it be in their best interest to keep a player who is talented and cheap (due to his draft position) as opposed to trading him for a pick that they'll probably have to pay more for, and don't know who they will be getting?
Fact is this: Memphis has showed their hole-card, and the writing is on the wall. EVERYONE with the exception of die-hard Memphis fans and apparently you, can see this.
Lowry will probably stick in the NBA...and if Memphis had traded him earlier, they WOULD have got a 1st (and maybe a 2nd as well), but now they need to either keep him or continue the fire sale.
