New Jersey Trade Breakdown

Vince Carter
6-6 SG / SF from North Carolina
20.5 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 5.2 apg in 38.4 minutes

Darrell Armstrong
6-1 PG from Fayetteville State
2.3 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 1.5 apg in 11.1 minutes

Nets also get a future 1st from the Cavs(2010, Top 8 Protected) and the Cavs receive the 3 million dollars trade exception the Nets received from Dallas.

Why New Jersey does it: Nets go into rebuilding mode. They get rid of VC's contract and get the expiring contract of Eric Snow and a much shorter contract in Gooden. They might want to keep Drew. T

Why Cavs do it: Lebron will be happy. To bring Lebron more help on offense with VC and to bring the experience, energy and leadership qualities that Darrel brings. They can use the 3M trade exception(which expires after one year)in a future trade to bring Lebron more help.

Marcus Williams can replace Darrel Armstrong in the trade, but then the 2010 1st round pick Nets get from Cleveland is only 1st Pick protected.

Thoughts?

Problem with this trade is that we are too thin at PF right now. We would have to start LeBron or Ira at PF, and have Simmons/Dwayne rotate with Z. and whoever played PF. Devin would have to rotate at SF.

I wouldn't mind the trade, but I doubt that the Cavs would do it or that New Jersey would do it.

Vince has played well lately and they want some talent in-return. They'd want Gibson, filler and a first-round pick.

Varejao wont be back until next week sometime. In the meantime we would be too thin. The trade-deadline is Thursday, so we'd prolly have to play 4-5 games with a thin bench (assuming we waited till the last second to make the trade).

We may end-up trading for Vince next year though...with a bunch of expiring contracts.

This would make Cleveland a legit contender.

Hughes for Carter and a #1

Windhorst just said it is not Vince.

The Nets wouldn't do a Hughes-Carter straight up swap, and the best offer the Cavs could conjur up would at best be for about 60 cents on the dollar for Vinsanity. If only Kidd was traded a month ago, giving Carter time to tank the Nets season for a little bit. And although VC would put the Cavs closer to a championship, I think they could snatch him up for less in the offseason.

So glad the team chose to trade for pieces who are going to be able to fit with James as opposed to acquiring a selfish loser like Carter.
