The Goodbye to Larry Hughes (and others) Thread

Post#1 » by FlightNo.23 » Fri Feb 22, 2008 12:41 am

So...Larry, I guess you're no longer a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. I must admit, I really envisioned myself being ecstatic on hearing such news, but I digress. I guess I'm not yet sold on Benjamin Wallace and the new Cavs. My feeling on this transaction matter recounts when I broke up with my ex-girlfriend. I did not like her but I guess I was perturbed by the uncertainty of days to come as I am now.

The past three years has had its ups and downs and I grew to absolutely hate your offensive game/overpaid contract/shot selection/proneness to injury/complaining to the media/insistence on shooting despite miss after miss/ect.

I definitely felt for ya' when your brother passed in the '06 playoffs...and how once LeBron and you were so called best friends and how it seems he never even looks at you anymore...

Well Larry, I must say I am saddened to see ya' go

Goodbye :(

I'll say goodbye to Drew. Even though he had clear mental deficiencies on the defensive end, he was a solid, tough performer. He gave 100% every single night. We couldn't have asked for much more.

Both guys played hard if not smart, and were good guys overall. I will miss the good things they did however inconsistent they were, but I believe i will be swearing at my TV less now that they are gone. I wish them well (not too well though) in chitown.

Good guys, played hard...

Drew is a moron... I'm not sad to see him go at all..The best part is the Bulls will be here on March 2nd, and Drew will be in the building wearing a different jersey..

Larry is another story.. He kinda grew on me this year..Larry's defense was always appreciated..

I won't miss Gooden at all. His play was really starting to annoy me...

Larry on the other hand I was starting to come around on. He is a good guy and as has been said always played hard. He was also starting to play better...

I guess it's smart to sell high with Larry as it was just a matter of time before he got injured again. Wish him the best of luck

Also the irony of this deal is we will be seeing Hughes/Gooden 4 times a year...in fact I don't think we've even played Chicago yet??

Will be kind of weird playing them now. Gooden/Hughes are the kind of guys who tend to play well against their former teams also..

If this turns into a Hughes/Gooden bashing thread I will lock it. We aren't Wiz fans here. We're better than that.

Wish the guys well and let it go.

I find that weird that we never played you guys. I know another divison rivalry that was never played and that is the Lakers and Kings. I guess who ever makes up these schedules thought that these 4 teams would make for good TV ratings but the Bulls and Kings as of right now are out of the playoff picture.

I would like to see how your home crowd greets Gooden and Hughes, with either Boos or Cheers.

ill miss larry. he was a great guy who battled through a ton of adversity while he was here. the contract was a like an albatrosss that continually hung around his neck and reered its head whenever larry struggled (and larry often struggled probably because of the pressure to live up to the contract). best of luck to you mr hughes in chicago, hopefully you can find your niche in the windy city

drew gooden's low iq will not be missed, but at least he gave effort and gave us a big boost when av was out earlier in the season

ira was the constant pro - yeah he sucked but at least he tried hard when given the opportunity

marshall - ehh, whatever

simmons and brown were young and were never destined to have any success in cleveland with mike brown at the helm. ill be rooting for them, but i dont see anything of substance out either one of these two for the time being

Even though Larry made me pull my hair out, I will definitely miss him, I guess this means I will have to retire his jersey as well

Drew wasn't the best defender, but he got the hot hand from time to time and could really get the team going.

I might be the only one who actually liked Ira here. Never complained, always played hard, sometimes even with a good game. I valued him more then Dwayne Jones and Simmons for sure.

I'm also happy that Shannon Brown goes to a new team. He was always the most explosive player, after lebron, but that dude always tried to go 100 mph whenever he got a chance. Made some stupid turnovers because he tried so hard to impress Mike Brown. I hope he gets more playing time now.

Larry was a good guy, it was always fun to hate on him but i don't think he was an a$$hole. Drove me mad with his 3-14 performances though. Good D

Drew would piss me off with his inconsistency. One night 20-13 the next 9-7 or something like that. He'll never be consistent.

marshall, meh. Simmons, meh.

I work in San Francisco. I drive to the BART station every workday in El Cerrito. I pass El Cerrito High - alma mater of John Fogerty (CCR) and Drew Gooden.

Tomorrow the drive will mean a lot more than it has all these past years.

I hope Larry & Drew can adjust to the Bulls "no headband rule"!

Drew's power is contained within his headband, the neckbeard is merely a distraction.

Later Drew.. I wont miss you AT ALL. I will not regret not having to watch The Drew Gooden Show anymore. Boy did that show have some bad episodes.

Later Larry. You were bad more than you were good here, but as others have said you grew on me as well this year. I do give you credit for playing through a ton of adversity both on and off the court. Unfortunately it didnt work out for either side.

Later Shannon, you scrub. Good luck finding a team to play for next year.

Later Donyell. Stay away from all the coffee shops up there in Seattle. The last thing you need to add is more empty calories from all your Mochachinos.

Later Newble. You took far too much heat from fans here. Its not your fault you were the best SG option we had for a couple years. You were a definate high character strong leader guy that gave your all every chance you got, and put the team first. Your talent isnt high, but your will is.

Later Simmons. We barely knew you, but you sure didnt impress in your time here. Hopefully you can stay healthy and develop some more.

Since they've all been here awhile I will miss all of them. Drew as boneheaded as he can be was solid. Larry if he played like he has the past month or so, I'd be going crazy about even thinking of trading him. They've both been through alot here, I don't expect any booing when they return here. They both helped us get to the Finals, no matter how big or small their roles leading us there were. Oddly, I find myself feeling worse of all for Donyell. He wanted to be here when he we signed him. Now he's stuck on a team with no talent just looking to leave town from their city. I wish we could help the city of Seattle like we did for our Browns in getting them a new team. I don't care what anyone says, thats a good sports town. Shannon, I would have been more happy with sending to Seattle so he'd get a chance to play. Ira, he's been a true pro. Thanks to all of them for their time here. We've only been to the Finals once, so if we don't get back there. None of them will be forgotten to me.
