Here's the problem with the Cavs signing Sam "I AM"
The Cleveland Cavaliers could use either of these players come play-off time, but the problem with signing either is that the Cavaliers would have to leave somebody off their playoff roster.
Currently, the Cavaliers have 13 players under contract for the season (plus the 2 ten-day contracts)
Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Dwayne Jones, Ben Wallace, Anderson Varejao, Joe Smith, LeBron James, Devin Brown, Wally Szczerbiak, Sasha Pavlovic, Daniel Gibson, Delonte West, Damon Jones, and Eric Snow.
The ONLY player they would consider replacing is Dwayne Jones, and due to the number of minutes he has played this season, and his contribution to the team, I don't see them doing it.
Others that people think could be replaced are Snow, Damon or Sasha
There is no way they take Snow off the roster. He is a major leader to this team and is still a defensive stopper.
Damon jones is in the top 4 among ALL pgs this season in TS% (True shooting percentage), and he is not going to be replaced.
Sasha was on the finals team last year and is considered a "core" player...he wont be replaced.
That being said...I don't believe the Cavaliers will be signing either of the players...even if they begged to play for us. We just don't have room for them!
(The playoff roster is limited to 13 players - for those of you that don't know)

They would take Snow off the active roster in a heartbeat if it meant getting Cassell on it. Lets be serious here. Snow's best attribute his is experience and coaching ability and he can still give us that from the bench where he normally does come playoff time. Do you really think Snow would get meaningful minutes in the playoffs anyway?

I think they did away with that this year. I think you can have your full roster.

No, I don't think he'd get meaningful minutes...but he may get situational minutes and garbage time.
Eric Snow has so much respect from both the league and the players, that I think they wouldn't keep him off the roster...so he could play on a championship team...in the finals.
That being said, you make a very good point. And if it came down to it, I'd like to see the Cavs sign Sam. Brent is gonna re-sign with the Spurs I think...unless someone offers him more than the vet-minimum..then he may go somewhere else...but I think he's headed back to the Spurs.

He already did three times, his team never won

He already did three times, his team never won...He is completely useless on the court at this point with this kind of depth. He still can be part of the team, as an assistent coach or whatever, can't he? If Ferry got chance to land Cassel, he would cut Snow in a heartbeat. But I really don't see it happening.
Then it wasn't a "CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM"
Do they have and exception to pull him off waivers?

Do they have and exception to pull him off waivers?
Or do they have to compete with everyother team in their efforts to sign him?
What about the Chicago waiver they acquired?
Do they have any other exceptions?

Sam will be unrestricted and will be free to sign with any team he wants to.
B-Mac...
Sam Cassell isn't a free-agent until he clears waivers.
A team under the salary-cap or with a salary exception that would pay for Sam's pro-rated salary (about 1.6 million dollars), can grab him BEFORE he becomes a free agent.
Golden State can do this, Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago, Cleveland (that I know of). There may be other teams out there with an exception big enough to grab him, but not too many that are in the title-hunt.
Sam agrees to a buy-out, but before it (contract) is bought-out (officially), he is put on the waiver wire... if someone picks him up, then L.A. is off the hook for his salary and no buy-out is needed. If he clears the wire, then the buy-out is completed and Sam becomes an UFA.

Actually they would have to pick up his entire salary. About 6 or 8 million I can't recall.
Not the 1 to 2 million thing, that's what he gets bought out as [reportedly the owner actually got the buyout down to 800k wich is quite low]
And yes it would have to be from a trade exception and/or room of a team under the cap.
It's like a trade when a team picks someone up on waivers yet the team can't trade him for another player... so therefore MLE and the such can't be used either.
That's why Brent Barry is a free agent or teams should of just picked him up off the waivers if it was easy.

Yes, they would have to pick-up his entire salary...but it WOULD be pro-rated for the season, IE: 1.6 million
