I would. Hell of a guy and great veteran leader. He was actually playing rather well this year as well. Would be a solid guy to stash on the bench.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants him back. He was playing pretty well towards the end of his run.

I've heard a couple teams are interested. It'll be hard since you guys have to wait 30 days but if he's there I guess Cleveland will pick him up.

He's a good guy and I'd have no problem with us picking him up, but I think he'll go to a team where he'd get more playing time.

Where is he gonna get more pt? Dallas? Denver?

He's only gonna sign with a contender, and they all have the same problems with pt that we do. But he knows our people and the coach, and knows the coach will use him.

absolutely pick up ira - it always helps to have another guy who knows the system.

Exactly!!!

Also, unless there was a playoff team that had a decent shot, that would USE him, then the Cavaliers will probably be his 1st choice. He is an unrestricted FA next year, and he wants to show as much as possible so he can get a one or two year deal. He will be able to show the most here in Cleveland because he knows the system, the coaches, the guys, and he knows that we're injured and that he is a better defender than any of our other players except maybe LeBron.

You assume he'll actually get enough minutes to showcase anything here in Cleveland.... I think thats fairly unlikely. If he's playing for his next contract, he's not signing in Cleveland. If he wants a chance at a deep playoff run, and loves the team and his teammates he chooses Cleveland.

Who's going to sign him where he can showcase his talents? He's helpful here because he knows our system. He's not going to have a lot of value to any other playoff team.

About the only team I can think of where he'd get significant playing time is that mess of a team in Miami, but I think they even have 15 players under contract.

he would be helpful to Boston or Detroit. he knows our plays and our system. and both will be in the playoffs.

Boston has 15 players, and will have to waive someone to sign Sam Cassell -
Detroit is at 15 after waiving Murray.

He wont go to either of those teams.

Detroit will be at 15 after signing Theo Ratliff.

Why would we buy out a 10 day guy?
Wouldn't we have to wait 30 days to sign Newble?

Actually, He is an unrestricted free agent NOW.
I think the reality is that he will sign with whoever wants him. Its not going to be a big list.

He is Ira Newble.. The Sonics don't even want him to mentor their young talent. (sarcasm)

He doesn't have any skills to showcase that aren't already known. You keep saying stuff like that. Kidd's value is already known and the Olympics will have nothing to do with it. Newble's the same thing dude. GMs know what he brings by now. It's not like he learned how to score in bunches in the last week.

And are you saying the guy is a better defender than Big Ben? Andy?
I don't think he's that good. And I wouldn't waste minutes that our new players and/or hurt players could be using to prepare for the playoffs on Ira Newble.

No way I'd sign him this year. I'd rather pay the 10 day guys and save a few bucks.

jnester71 - When I mentioned that he'd be an unrestricted FA next season, I assumed that everyone already understood that he is a FA after clearing waivers.

As for why would we buy-out one of the 10-day contracts: Because we will re-sign them to have enough players to practice with, and after their third 10-day contract, I believe they are guaranteed for the rest of the year.

Why would Ira rather come here - I think that I and others have already made that abundantly clear.

Is Ira a better defender than Varejao or Wallace? That's comparing apples to oranges. Ira is a better perimeter defender than either, while either of them are better defenders in the paint.

Ira would be a great pick-up because while we are healing, he would be another person we could use to give another player a rest. Our guys under 10-day contracts aren't coming into a game unless it is complete garbage-time. Ira, on the other hand can come-in and play the 2, 3, or 4 if necessary, and since he knows the system, Coach Brown AND the Cavaliers team-mates would be MORE comfortable with him on the floor than some guy who's on a 10-day contract.

whatever..

YOU claim that Ira was the best defender on the team save for LeBron

then I give you two examples of how he's not and you call it apples to oranges

you made the general statement not me..
but at least you can build up your posts by claiming you meant something entirely different when you respond

spin it however you want.

but the fact is:
Ira Newble is completely worthless

Seattle didn't even want him..

but to hear you tell it the guy is going to lock down Ray Allen and Rip Hamilton.
You've got a bad case of homer-itis when you can't admit Ira Newble is bad

Last month you had Newble "mentoring" every teams number one picks...
A couple days ago he is out to show his best stuff in an effort to win the big contract for next year..

these are all ridiculous thoughts..

He is what he is.. and what he is is not very good.

We don't need him. Especially not 30 days from now.

I think Ferry and the Cavs are hoping our guys are healthy when the 30 days are up. I DAMN SURE KNOW I AM.

After watching 30 years of Ben Poquettes, Melvin Turpins, Keith Lees and Donyell Marshall... I don't ever want to want or be happy with an Ira Newble again....

Give me someone with an actual use or give me a dirt cheap 10 day CBA all-star who is hungry to prove himself.

As I said.. even if we had a minute available for Newble in one single game.. I think that minute would be better spent letting the guys who are going to do battle for us come playoff time get more familiar with each other..
as you said.. we have some injuries.. when those guys get back they'll have to get comfortable with the new blood..
its a team sport.. chemistry takes you far...

not to mention.. the 10 day guys are cheaper than Newble..

and as far as guaranteeing the 10 day guys.. there's nothing that says we even have to sign the same 2 guys? as you said.. they're not getting off the bench..
