Hughes makes STUPID comment(s)...sure to upset Cavs fans

We all know that Larry Hughes was hurt a lot and when he wasn't, he never lived up to expectations. Before today's game (3/2/08) against the Bulls, Larry was interviewed and made some pretty stupid comments:

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Larry Hughes was unhappy in Cleveland, even when the Cavaliers went to the NBA finals.

The veteran guard returned to Cleveland on Sunday for the first time since being dealt to Chicago in an 11-player trade on Feb. 21, and said he prefers the Bulls' style of play.

Hughes said before Sunday's game the Cavaliers' offensive system "wasn't my style. They wanted me to sacrifice things so we could win. In this system, there is more movement and draw and kicks."

The Cavaliers were 50-32 last season. Cleveland won the Eastern Conference title, beating Washington, New Jersey and Detroit in the playoffs. The Cavaliers were swept by San Antonio in the finals.

Even that success didn't seem to satisfy Hughes.

"It was a good run," he said. "We had 50-plus wins, made the finals and I learned from it. I was unhappy, though, and wasn't myself. I'd rather enjoy the game than all that."

In his first quote he basically says that the Cavaliers wanted him to sacrafice some things so the team could win, but that Larry didn't want to do that because "It wasn't his style."

In the second quote, he says that he'd rather enjoy the game than win... Basically saying that he'd rather play the way he wanted to...for "HIMSELF" than to play team-ball and win!

What a COMPLETE DUMBASS!!!!!

If I was an NBA owner, I'd start a back-room rally to black-ball Larry!

Before hearing these comments, I'd wished Larry well... Now I hope he has a career-ending injury so that no other team ever has to deal with such a blatantly selfish ***hole!

It's kinda true, but on any team he has to realize you have to play in a system; Unless your the Suns.

Because Larry is obviously an idiot and was taking both the fans of Cleveland and the Cavaliers organization for a ride. Now I see why Washington didn't try too hard to get him back. I hope Chicago fans realize what they got back. I think they'll be screaming for a trade of Hughes when this gets out...but WHO's gonna take him now??????

Now I sit here and wonder if he deliberately made us lose games.

I sincerely hope that he hurts himself and has to quit basketball. Think of all the kids he's lied to over the last 3+ years...preaching "teamwork." WHAT A LAUGH!!!!

It is kinda silly to say but it is his right. I think it was pretty obvious that he wasn't happy, but it is kinda funny what he says made him unhappy. How are you going to be unhappy about having to sacrifice parts of your game to win? Uh don't all good players do that. The fact that it makes you unhappy just kinda proves how much of a loser you are. Oh well, I liked him while he was here because he did try to fit in. However, I think he could have done more to integrate his game. It's not as though the Cavs didn't want to run or to penetrate. He was just inept at finishing which prevented us from wanting him to do either.

Most Chicago fans are more than willing to trade Highes - but he is now our most "undesired" contract by other GMs. He's the only one of the Bulls who will be difficult to deal. So we may be stuck with him another year until he becomes an "expiring" contract.

However, if we cant trade Hughes, then either Hinrich or Gordon will be dealt. We're not going to have 3 guards making big bucks.

I USED to like him...and gave him the benefit of the doubt. However, I HIGHLY doubt that he tried to fit in to the Cavs system. Rather, I think that he continuously tried to play "his" game within the Cavs system, which disrupted the entire offense.

I am 100% confident that we will do much better without him on our team. And I think that when LeBron hears these quotes that Larry wont be seeing the "nice" LeBron anymore - like he did today.

Hey man, to each their own. Not everybody is just about winning and I can respect that, but like Windhorst said, you can't get everything you want. If you want to get paid in this league, you've got to be about winning.

Despite Larry's relatively poor play while he was here, I liked the kind of player he was. He did sacrifice a big part of what makes the game fun to him so we could win, was a great defender for us, was a big part of the run last year, and was great in the community.

That said, after hearing this, I'm glad we traded him because, while I respect his wishes, that's not what this team is about. This team belongs to the city, and this city and its teams have always been about sacrificing for success. I feel that if Larry wasn't one hundred percent dedicated to winning, then this team would never have had the necessary attitude to win a title with him on the team, regardless of how well he played.

Anyway, that's his personality and his character, and there's nothing wrong with having that approach to life. There are plenty of people in this world who are smart enough and talented enough to be rich and successful and famous, but choose not to be because they'd rather have fun. The only issue I have with it is that committing to a team is like having a kid. It's a commitment, and you have to fulfill your commitments no matter your personality. It's part of being a good person. If you can't fulfill a comitment, then don't make it. That being said, I'll hold off on judgment because I cannot imagine how hard it is to turn it down when somebody is practically chasing you down with $60 mil with your name on it.

On the other hand, I will judge the **** out of Ferry and Gilbert, who went out and signed - practically begged - him to such a huge contract. It seems like the kind of vibe that should be easy for a good gm or owner to pick up on. Again, not that I find anything basically wrong with Larry's attitude, but that's not the kind of attitude you spend that kind of money on when you want to win. It's hard to have confidence in a front office that makes such a giant mistake like that.

I hope they have turned the corner with this trade because for now, it seems like these new guys realize how important winning is to this team and city and are down to go along for the ride.

Interesting, but didn't we already know those were his true feelings for months? We know he hated playing PG from many newspaper articles, and we knew he didn't like the defensive focus of Mike Brown from interviews and articles as well. He wanted the team to run and gun or whatever they call it these days and he didn't want to pass the ball.
