Sasha Pavlovic

Post#1 » by Hydroponic3385 » Sat Mar 8, 2008 5:35 pm

Odds are no one will respond to this before the Cavs/Pacers game starts anyways, but I was reading the preview article for the game on ESPN and they didn't mention anything about Pavlovic. The article said "Zydrunas Ilgauskas (13.5 ppg) and Daniel Gibson (11.5 ppg) are both out for Cleveland", but nowhere did they mention Sasha.

Any word on how much longer Pavlovic is supposed to be out? I know he was supposed to be out a couple weeks longer than Andy, but Sasha was hurt first and Andy has almost been back 2 weeks right? I'm assuming the person who wrote the article just forget to mention him, but it'd be nice if Sasha were back soon.

Here's a link to the article: http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/preview?gameId=280308005

I'm not sure, I think it's been 6 weeks though. Hopefully he's back soon, but, when everyone's healthy, I honestly don't see him getting much playing time.

I honestly do. We actually need him to be back to his last year's self to be really competitive in the playoffs imo.

Yeah I think

Z / Andy / Dwayne
Ben / Smith
Lebron / Wally
Sasha / Devin
Delonte / Boobie / Damon / Snow

is out best rotation. Even if Sasha doesn't play a ton of minutes, he'd be the best to start with cuz of his height, length, and hopefully D and occassional shot or drive again.

You would want to push Damon out of the rotation? He's been shooting great, and we need all the shooters we can get. Also, Pavlovic was such a slow starter this season, he was just heating up when he got hurt. So, I'm not sure if he'll be ready for the playoffs.

actually I'd put Damon in before I would Devin especially since Sasha should alleviate some of the defensive needs.

In the playoffs we'll need his defense, that's something Damon can't provide...

Yeah, but at times we're going to need Damons shooting so he'll need to stay in the rotation as well.

Of course, but he'll be strictly our third PG after West and Boobie and definitely not ahead of Sasha in the rotation I guess...

Did I ever mention taking Damon out of the rotation? Nope. I think Brown will have 11 guys he can legitimately put into the rotation, and depending on who's playing well, it'll be a certain 9-10 guys every night. Sasha will get more PT than Damon once he's healthy again, no doubt. Devin is NOT a starter at the 2 in the playoffs, and I'd gotta think you'd prefer Boobie off the bench yet probably getting the most minutes out of the guard positions. So it's either Wally or Sasha, and I'm just saying if Sasha gets healthy enough and back to normal, he'd make more sense to start.

Sasha had his first full contact workout since his mid foot sprain against the Wizards six and a half weeks ago

We should see him back within the next week...The Cavs play five games in eight days starting tomorrow night against Portland, so ample opportunities are right around the corner

Sasha should def start. We need his perimeter defense and ability to create his own offense. Someone is falling out of the rotation though, probably Devin because Boobie and Wally will both get SG minutes.

Ideally we could reduce LBJ's minutes to the 37-38 mpg range and use our wing depth to fill the SF minutes when we get our full squad.

I think you guys are forgetting that Sasha is a crummy basketball player. He's only a mediocre shooter, and he can't dribble. He's playing the role of "big SG" because the Cavs haven't drafted a guy to fill that role yet. I'll grant that he's athletic and a good defender, which thanks to the trade, will be his primary objective.

He'll probably start, but largely because his confidence fluctuates so much, that they need him to feel like he has an important role. But if he comes back, and his defense isn't as good as it was last year (it hasn't been very good so far this season), the guy is worth less than Billy Thomas and Kaniel Dickens. I haven't been a fan of Damon Jones' play before this season, but the guy has swallowed his tongue and played hard. He and Devin Brown have earned their playing time, while Pavlovic stinks it up at least 40% of the time. Get this guy off the team asap.
Go Cavs!

Wow, I've always been a bit of a Sasha fan and the fact that he was part of last years closing team should tell you that Brown kinda likes him as well Sure he blew at least one game last year with a late game turnover but he's a much better player than you are giving him credit for.

He's overrated anyway. The Cavs should have acquired a competent shooting guard in exchange for their old, streaky one (Hughes).

I love when people say that players are overrated. Sasha is overrated by whom?

He's overrated in the sense that he's getting starting SG minutes, when he's at best a 10th man. Brown does like him, though.

Precisely. I think the Cavs should've let him go in the summer and gotten a consistent second banana to fill his place.

Well we got Devin Brown :-?

and we did let him go in the summer. He signed in the fall actually. And he's not bad. When he's healthy, great defense and good 3PT shot! He can also create, though that part of his game isn't that polished.
