We would absolutely have to do this trade, Wally and 2 1sts for RJ is just way too good of a value to pass up. However, RJ plays SF and so does this Lebron guy who is pretty good. I'd rather trade Wally and maybe only 1 pick for VC.

I doubt NJ gives up VC for JO, let alone for RJ.
RJ could easily play the 2 on the Cavs just like in the Utah deal.
Lebron dominates the ball/the offense runs through him anyway, so you could get away with it.
Besides RJ's handle has vastly improved, although I won't argue with you, I understand.
Figured you say it's a must trade.
Anyway thanks for the input.

I really don't see the benefit of this trade at all and there is no way I'd give up 2 firsts for Jefferson. But of course, that's just me.

No question you do this trade.

Somebody needs to explain to me what it is about Jefferson that makes you want him. IMO he's a open court player who plays good defense but really is not a particularly good shooter. That's not a particularly good fit to me.

not that i particularly agree with the trade but what players do you think we could get, outlaw, this summer/trade deadline with our expirings that you would be happy with?

wait until midseason trade deadline when the nets see they are going nowhere and blow up their team to rebuild - we have the expiring contracts to take the expensive contracts of Jefferson and Carter off of their hands. Throw in some picks then to make it work.
Carter and LeBron start, Jefferson rotates with them off of the bench.

A couple of things:
First and most importantly, he has already shown he can play with a ball dominant player. (Kidd) There are only a select few in this league that can do that, that are as skilled as Jefferson.
Secondly, he is averaging 23 ppg on 47% shooting and 37% from three. He also shoots 80% from the line and gets there almost 9 times a game. He wont do much in the way of assists or rebounds, but on this team we dont need him to. He is a tough nosed player, who plays well above average defense, and IMO doesnt seem like the kind of guy who will play too timidly on the same team as LeBron, AND he's only 27. Looks like a great sidekick.
Giving up Wally means nothing. Giving up the 2 picks? Yea that hurts a bit, especially since one would be this summers. If we could bump that back to next years and two years after that, then it would be perfect, especially since our picks should be in the 20's somewhere at that point. Even if you cant push the picks back, you take this trade and run with it, and try to find a young big elsewhere.

btw: to add for previous post - Wally + Damon + Snow works cap wise for Carter + Jefferson and saves the nets about $75 million and clears $30 million of cap space for the 09 offseason.
I don't see them doing something like that in the offseason, but it may be a possibility if they are struggling midseason.

I don't have the confidence in Jeffersons shooting as most of you seem to (the 4-17 against the Cavs notwithstanding). Nets fans have had huge issues with Jeffersons shooting ability. IMO he's a better version of Hughes. He's a good player, I just don't think he's a particularly good fit.
I'm not sure who the Cavs can get, but I'd hope we could get someone better than Hughes with 2 first rounders. That's way more expensive than I'd want for him even without the expirings.

can u imagine if we got jefferson and carter for wally, snow and dj?

Yeah, but that's just it.. There's this notion that we need nothing but sharp shooters everywhere, and that drives me nuts.. In fact, I blame alot of this on coach and his LeBron iso at the top drive and kick junk..
I want a real offense, I want ball movement, player movement, extra passes etc...
For example, Michael Redd is a better shooter than Jefferson, but I rather have Jefferson..He plays both ends of the floor, he moves and cuts without the ball, he gets to the line, and he isn't a ball dominant player like Redd..
He's just a flat out good basketball player, that plays hard, plays with passion, and is a winning type of basketball player..And that's what he need more of around here...

Jefferson Thinks He Can Be Dealt
Richard Jefferson is having an excellent offensive season, but he knows that he could be dealt over the summer.
"You know, I could be suiting up for someplace else next year. Nobody knows," said Jefferson.
"You know, change happens," he said. "I would like to (stay), but change does happen. 'The NBA -- Where Change Happens.' What you would like, and what is a possibility, are two different things."

We'd probably have to throw in a pick, and probably Pavlovic (he wouldn't get playing time anyway). But, wow, can you imagine that team?
Lebron would probably be PG:
LBJ/West(if he's resigned)
VC/Gibson
RJ/Brown(if he's resigned)
Wallace/Smith
Z/AV
Talented, and deep.

If we had a different coach then I would do it, but not with Mike Brown coaching the team. If we had a coach that could run a structured offense, like Larry Brown, then Jefferson's ability would be better used.
I hate giving up the 2008 pick. This class is as deep as any I have seen. We can get a really productive player in the mid-20's.

I highly doubt that Ferry would get a good deal out of Rod Thorn.
