hmmm interesting idea if its true, but i would like this trade better if it was Big Ben instead of Z, and if Andy is part of a deal then we would need to keep that pick to get younger at PF/C
maybe something like Big Ben, 09 pick, Sasha and/or Andy and expirings for Jermaine and whatever else the Pacers would through in

I'd love to have O'Neal, but there's no way I can see the Cavs parting with Z. No one needs to bash me by saying this either, because it's pretty clear the Cavs are just NOT going to trade Ilgauskas. He's been with the team too long and I think he's here for the long haul, perhaps including a short & cheap contract following his current one.

Adding Jermaine underwhelms me because of his injury history. Not to mention all the $ they would have tied up in two PF's (O'Neal and Wallace) on the downsides of their careers. I agree that Z will retire as a Cav ..probably when his current contract expires. Honestly don't see Z playing more than 2 more seasons. They really should keep that #19 pick and draft someone to eventually replace Ilgauskas.

Too much imo. I would do this deal if it were Wallace instead of Z. I might consider doing it if it were Z+ filler (Jones?) for O'Neal. I wouldn't add a pick and AV if they wanted to keep Z though.
If there is some way that we can get both Redd and O'Neal without giving up Z....I would be THRILLED.

LOL the Cavs arent trading Z. Any rumor that has him being traded needs to be dismissed as whoever is writing it clearly misheard or is making it up.

If Jermaine wasn't a broke down baller, and was Jermaine from a few seasons ago, I would do it..

Agreed. I would like to have Jermaine here but no one wants to trade up Big Z.

You think Indy would trade a healthy, 20/10 DPOY-caliber PF for the package mentioned in this trade rumor? I think the fact that J.O. is beat up is the only reason he's attainable for you guys. If he can bounce back, it's a huge steal, and LeBron finally has a side-kick. Let's not forget, J.O. is a 6x All-Star and was the best player on the team with the league's best record not too long ago.

And if he doesnt bounce back? The guy has missed a million games in each of the past 4 seasons. Why would he magically become healthy in Cleveland, the injury capitol of the world?

But, we're not in a position to roll the dice right now and take a chance...
We don't have enough on our roster to counter a huge error..
Ferry already committed a severe error in the summer of 05... It resulted in little talent, and no flexibility moving forward in the following years... I'm willing to give him a mulligan simply due to the fact that he was with the Spurs organization through game 7 of that 05 finals, and didn't have enough time of the job to properly evaluate.. In his defense, the goal at the time was to get enough talent to get the Cavs to their first playoff appearance in the LBJ era.. We skipped a couple of steps along the way, and now the goal is much more...
With that said, he can't strike out again.. And getting an expensive big man that has broke down for the last few years, for our starting and backup center, and our 1st round pick is quite a huge risk..

First-off, Jermaine is a PF. He can play the #5, but he didn't excel when he was made to play there.
Second - Due to Jermain's contract, and the fact that he's been injured 4 straight years, he is not nearly worth what the rumor stated.
THIS is an ACCEPTABLE trade offer for Jermaine: Anderson Varejao (He replaces JO as Indiana's starting PF...is cheaper and great defensive player), Wally szczerbiak (Expiring contract). Wally fit's O'brien's philosophy of quantity three-pointers; both 2009 2nd round picks plus cash to off-set part of Wally's contract.
For the Cavs.... Oneal becomes the starting PF, and plays with Z...stopping teams from being able to double him, and making his pick&pop more of a threat. Ben and Smith become the back-up duo , and since they started together in Chicago, they have great chemistry. If Jermaine gets injured, the Cavaliers still have 3 good big-men plus Dwayne (who'll prolly be re-signed). This would allow the Cavs to select a SG this year instead of a Center...if they deemed it necessary. In-addition, the Cavs would still have the flexibility of doing a second sign&trade/trade with Sasha/Damon and possibly snow.
If Jermaine stayed Healthy...the Cavs would be the Favorite in the East... if he got injured, they'd still make the playoffs, and depending on who else they acquired, would still challenge for a title.
Sasha + Snow for Corey (for the second deal) ?? Maybe throw-in a 2010 2nd rounder.

^^^ No Way the cavs give up a 14 Million Dollar expiring (Wally)to get JO.
Take out Wally and add in Wallace and it starts to make sense.

Yes, they would. You forget... the Cavaliers have great depth in the front-court, and that doesn't include the time that LeBron plays the #4.
The Cavs would take a chance on Jermaine for Varejao (they may lose him for nothing), and wally plus 2 second rounders.
If Jermaine makes an 80% recovery, then this is a MAJOR coup-de-gras for the Cavaliers. If he only plays-out half the year, then he is no worse than what Anderson gave us this year, and a MUCH better scoring option!!!!
In addition, the Cavs would still have their #19 pick to play with, and another trade would be likely.
It is well worth the risk, and the Cavaliers would definitely take it (the risk).

What good is that expiring contract if it doesn't A.Bring in some front court help via trade. B. Give you enough cap relief to sign a good player. JO isn't finished he's just not giving his all to a team like the pacers. He's still capable of 15pts 9rpg 2blks
