If the Knicks are vying to get this done why in the h*ll aren't we pursuing the same option. We have a ton of expiring contracts to get this done & if you go on GS board the consensus seems to point that they would rather have Baron leave. Which would allow them to keep their younger parts like Barns, Harrington and others. If this is a option and we allow the Knicks to acquire him with all of their undesirables, this would undoubtedly send a message to Lebron that Ferry may not be capable of obtaining his Robin. The article stated that BDs agent has not only expressed to Davis that he needed to way his options. He's also been taking in inquiries about his clients availability from several teams. Now if he opts out he can go to the highest bidder, or hopefully to the team that he deems has the best chance of being successful{unlike aka Mr..Larry GLASS Hughes}

Option #1
If he does subscribe to going for his best chance to win I think we can make a strong run at him. By back loading maybe a 4yr contract & maybe give him 8-9 mill this year and increase his base the following 3yrs. {Don't forget that he is coming off of a Max contract so money shouldn't be his main objective}.

Option #2
If he doesn't opt out G.S. would entertain a trade per the New York Post that's where we have to get creative Maybe Wally, D. West and E snow and then they would probably buy the contract out. It seems like they just want to get rid of BD 17 mill plus contract. Per the New York Post

He can play his contract out but likely be traded by the trade deadline. Or he can opt out, sign a 1 year deal and play for the contender of his choice and if sucessful be rewarded with a big deal afterwards when resigned. Or force a trade and if they are professional to the team of his choice.

We dont have 8 or 9 million to offer him this year though unless we drop a TON of salary, which we cant do. The most we can offer to him is the MLE unless he is signed and traded which he cant be.

That isn't entirely true.

As things stand right now, it IS true, however....

It is being assumed that he will, infact, opt-out of his contract.

A possible sign&trade with Cleveland would be:

Baron Davis, Al Harrington, Kosta Perovic for Wally Szczerbiak, Anderson Varejao, Eric Snow, 3million cash (max allowed), 2008 1st round and 2009 2nd round pick.

Cleveland replaces Varejao with Harrington, gets Combo guard to sidekick with LeBron, and a possible heir to Zydrunas in Kosta Perovic (same size as Z). Cavs maintain next year's draft pick, and still has more than enough to make a second trade this year (Damon,Sasha,Gibson?,future picks, Wallace?, Joe Smith?).

Al Harrington under-achieved all year, and is un-happy with the Warriors. He scored only one point more per game than Varejao, and Andy rbounded almost twice as well, in much less time. In-addition, Andy runs better than Harrington, and plays better defense....not to mention he is 6 years younger, and a lot cheaper (Which is a priority for GS). GS Moves Andy into Al's place, and Moves Ellis into Baron's role. Wally becomes the 3-point bench man that they sorely need. Eric Snow will be bought-out, and will be mostly paid for by the money sent by the Cavaliers. The Warriors get younger, save money, maintain an excellent team, and gain a first-rounder this year and a 2nd rounder next season.

The Cavaliers want to win NOW, so they accept the Harrington/Baron deal in hopes that they can kill two birds with one stone, and use the rest of the off-season to acquire a more potent bench.

I really wouldn't be shocked if Gilbert doesn't give a sh*t about money and takes on luxury tax hell for 2 years. He knows he has to make Lebron happy, and he knows that 2 years of paying a ton of cash is well worth getting multiple titles in the near future. He's even said they're looking at free agents in addition to trades, and honestly I think his and Ferry's goal is to acquire star or near-star players, 1 thru free agency and one thru trade. Whether that happens or not, we'll have to see. But I wouldn't completely discount the idea that he says bring on even more luxury tax, let's get Lebron 1 or 2 legit sidekicks and it's over...Cavs title.

Exactly! the h*ll with all of this Cap Space talk the man already said that he would surpass it if needed so all we can do is hold him at his word. Excellent observation Hydroponic3385 the man is a businessman & a very successful one at that. Everyone noes {or should no} that you have to spend money to make money. And guess what if LBJ walks their goes any chance of him recouping anything close to a profit on his investment. So like I believe in money breeds money & if he gets the right players in {salary cap hell or not} that will be money well spent if LBJ IS HAPPY

You guys dont get it though. We flat out cannot offer any FA more than the MLE since we are already over the cap. The Collective Bargaining Agreement (basically the salary cap rule book) will not allow us to do anymore than that. That is the highest amount we can offer to anyone straight up.

As I eluded to and heath expanded on, if somehow a sign and trade could be worked out then we can basically sign a guy to more than the MLE, but we will have to give up trade pieces to get it done as well.

Although in the case of Baron heath, Im curious how Golden State could sign and trade him since he is already under contract with them?

This season is a player option, and he is expected to opt-out. His value is at an all-time high, and there are at-least 3 teams that will pay him max money...including the Cavaliers. (Please note that I know that the Cavs would need to do a S&T, but that is REALLY simple with Wally, and any of a number of combination of expirings/picks)

I would do a Wally & 2010 pick but I want to keep are pick this year we need a Big & this year's draft has a plethora to choose from
