He's retiring. He had a good run, he was a good teammate, leader, and a consumnate professional.

Also, he was pretty awful lol.

I agree...major appreciation to him cuz he's a great leader and great teammate, and hopefully in the future can be a solid coach. But hopefully he comes off the books AND we get an exception for half his salary. That'd be awesome.

Eh. So do we get to keep his expiring contract at least? If not, this is a double-whammy. Snow's contract, which was a thorn in our side for years, finally gets some value....and he just retires.

I appreciate him being a solid guy, a hard-worker, and a good player/coach out there...but he was being paid some insane money considering what he actually did for our team.

Sure, he could be trade bait. But we'd still have plenty of other expirings, and we could use Snow's 7 million thats off the books + the 3.5 million dollar exception as money to sign someone. That's 10.5 million we wouldn't have had, and I'm sure that could be used for something very nice (perhaps sign someone for about 6-7 million since it'll be doubled for being over the cap - hopefully a guy who's willing to take a pay cut for a chance at a title).

Pretty sure you can't combine a player exception and the MLE. So the $3.7M would have to be used seperately from the MLE.

Still, if we can get the exception that cant hurt, and not having his contract on the books makes potential S&Ts easier. BTW I thought he was a classy guy on and off the court, too bad he couldnt shoot.

If he had Damon's shot he would be an all-star.

Eric Snow had a solid career and did well for himself. He represents the NBA in a very positive manner and I think he will be a good coach. I have nothing but respect for E.Snow

DISABLED PLAYER EXCEPTION -- This exception allows a team which is over the cap to acquire a replacement for a disabled player who will be out for the remainder of that season (if the player is disabled between July 1 and November 30) or the following season (if the player is disabled after November 30). This exception can also be granted in the event of a player's death. This exception can only be used to acquire one player. The maximum salary for the replacement player is 50% of the injured player's salary, or the average salary, whichever is less (see question number 24 for the definition of "average salary"). Approval from the league (based on a determination by an NBA-designated physician) is required for this exception to be used. This exception can be used to sign a free agent, or to create room to accept a salary in trade. Also see question number 20 for more information on the availability and use of this exception.

If a player is disabled between July 1 and November 30, the team must acquire the replacement player within 45 days. If the disabled player comes back sooner than expected, then he may be activated immediately, and the replacement player is not affected. However, if the disabled player comes back before the exception is used, then the exception is lost.

Teams sometimes have had difficulty getting the NBA to approve an injury exception. For example, Danny Manning tore an ACL toward the end of the 1997-98 season, yet the NBA did not approve the Suns for this exception. More recently, the Magic did not receive this exception in 2003 for Grant Hill. However, this exception was granted in the 1999 offseason to San Antonio, so they could replace Sean Elliott, who was disabled due to kidney problems. This exception was also granted to Charlotte soon after Bobby Phills was killed.

Major props Buckeye. You learn something new every day. Unfortunately I still dont think that fits this situation since Snow was not disabled between July 1st and November 30th. Even if we could use this exception it could only be for half of Snow's contract, or a little over 3 million. Good enough to get someone half decent I suppose, but hardly anything worth getting super excited over.

I hope he waits until after we use his expiring contract in a trade to retire. Then, he can come back and be an assistant coach with us.

Cavs can go over the cap to sign Delonte since they own his bird rights. He doesn't affect a player or the mid level exception.
