Sorry for making this its own thread. This is my first thread. I've been reading these forums for awhile I finally was activated today. I seriously think we should make a run at JR Smith more so than Redd. My reasoning is because of the money factor. If we decide to get Redd and he doesn't pan out which could be a possibility, he would then be extremely hard to get rid of down the line. With the acquisition of JR Smith if he doesnt decide to pan out. we can move his salary easier than Redd's. Plus I think JR Smith can create offense just as good if not better than Redd. He's also young. I think he's 22, he still has years to find his game and I think he would be willing to commit on the defensive end rather than Redd. I was watching some of his videos on youtube.

If anything he's a Bulls Killer. I think Bulls might want to have him back

He wouldn't fit under Mike Brown's "offense". Also, I don't think Denver will be looking to move him whatsoever.

Alot of people wouldn't fit under Mike Brown's offense. It's Non-Existant. Denver might not match any offer above MLE. IDK you might be right, he may just end up suiting up for powder blue next year.

It's basically due to the fact that he's a billion times more talented than Sasha... He can shoot the ball, and is extremely athletic...
He's someone that can get 15-20 on any given night with ease...
The question has always been his head... If coach can get him to challenge at the defensive end, and cut down poor shots, I don't see where he would be a problem..

I'd take him as well. Denver may have bigger problems what with the Mello trade rumors, and AI possibly opting out. I'm sure some other teams are interested in him, but maybe the Lebron factor could help if Denver lets him go.

hes a good player......but im not settlin for anything less than an allstar proven player to side with LB. Even if it puts us in cap hell. Atleast we knew we did everything to keep LB

Not to mention offensively this guy can do everything penetrate, shoot mid-ragne, shoot long range, alley oop and fast break game will be crazy. All we need is someone to coach offense or else it would be no reason for him to come here. He would only rot. I heard that Bron and JR were boys anyways so I think it could only be that much more possible

L&H is right....the question has always been his head....he takes poor shots more consistently than he has those big pt. games. I like him even though he did commit to UNC and then jump to the NBA...lol...we didnt need him anyway...we still won the championship that year...YES he is a good talent...I dont think Denver will part with him unless they're just bombing this year to rebuild....they have a lot of decisions to make...their team is in a wreck.

however if we get the medical exception for snow that would add & additional 7.3 mill, worst case scenario we would get 3.7 mill so that would help. Plus the 5.5 mill for Mle & 1.8 exception so we're not in such of dire straights that many think. Best case scenario 14.6 {we are in the driver seat to acquire whom ever we want I say BD} Worst case 11 mill still pretty good to get who we need

I'm just not sure the Nugg's will let JR go.....they need to get rid of Camby, Martin, Mello, Nene (his contract is outrageous)...AI probably wants out....they have the player personel to pull off a BIG 3 teamer with anyone.

You cannot combine exceptions or anything with the MLE.

Fellas please try to understand the salary cap and the CBA here. I am far from a CBA expert, but allow me to shed at least a little more light on the topic, and others can hopefully fill the rest in.
The cap is a fixed number. Currently we are WAY over it. There are two ways to offer free agents contracts A) Be under the cap enough that you can offer players the amount up to which puts you over the cap or B) Use some sort of Exception (MLE, BAE, etc...)
Currently we are over the cap. Snow's contract coming off the books will still not put us under the cap meaning that (unless we get the injured player exception for half of his deal brought up in the E Snow thread) the money we get back for him will simply be savings and nothing else. Even if Gilbert wanted to take that money and offer it to a Free Agent he couldnt because the CBA won't allow it.
Also, you cant combine different exceptions to offer to one player. For example the MLE and injury exception from Snow could not be combined to offer more to one player.
We do have our MLE this summer, but if we use it this summer we cant use it next as you can only use it every other year (or at least as far as I know). So there is no guarentee we will use it this summer.
The only way we can get players who are free agents but out of our price range is to work out sign and trades with the team that signs them.
Hopefully this helps and I didnt butcher this all too much.

Nuggets will threaten to match...no way we can just cleanly pick this guy off off Denver without giving up compensation. But that had me thinking of this blockbuster: give J.R. the MLE, then pull a sign-and-trade sending Sasha and Andy to the Nugs for J.R. and Camby Man. Denver gets a younger big man and we get Smith to replace Sasha's candy ass.

MLE can be used every year, so called bi-annual exception is for every other year...
