What would you trade for Ron Artest?

I was reading comments from the article about Redd wanting 2 play 4 Cleveland now & somebody suggested instead of trading for Redd, how about trading for Artest instead. And also said that Redd doesn't play defense. Would Cavs fans want him just as long as he doesn't go false warier on some one's fans or bust tv's? If so, then who would you trade for him & do you think the trade can be pulled off?

I'm not real worried about Artest off the court, but I don't think he offers what the Cavs need on the court. I like his defense and he's a great garbage-type offensive player, but he's not a real good range shooter and makes bad decisions with the ball too often. Plus--where does he play? Lebron is the SF and he never sits, so Artest would play PF. That means Wallace, Smith, and Varejao get squeezed, though Varejao is the most likely trade candidate. Take Wallace instead and you've got a deal.

Ron Artest is a good fit if not a perfect fit in my eyes.
1st. He will cost us about half of what we would give up for Redd(whom I am against). We could give up less if we take one of their 'bad' contracts who would still expire before resigning Lebron(next season).
2nd. He's a defensive player who can defend the 2,3,and 4(in the small eastern conference). Can you imagine throwing Ron Artest at Kobe and then in the fourth a refreshed Lebron on him while still trying to guard either on the other end? Mike Brown would love him. Avg+2stls Larry Hughes wishes he was that good.
3rd. A defensive player who scores 20+. He can create his own offense and can post up which only Z does, then we dont have to get mad at Lebron that he doesnt post. Plus he can create for others avgs~4 asts.
4th. If he works out we resign him, if not we S&T him , or at the very least let him go.
After this I would still try to get Mike Miller, Jermaine O'neal, or at the very least swap Ben Wallace for Kirilenko(I like the AK idea still). With AK, Artest, and Lebron you dont know who is playing what position are guarding who, and AK was most productive at PF and is always a top defender and near top in blocks(something we have been missing on D even with Ben Wallace).

I feel like he's a very safe pick up. You know he'll bring great defense, has a proven ability to score a decent amount. We're a defensive team, nothing is going to change that and we can get better at defense. Look at the defense we played with Wally Sczerbiak on the court in the playoffs. I also think we'd still have a shot at Mike Miller if we got Artest. We still need someone to guard quick point guards though like Rondo. If I had to pick between Artest and Redd I would probably pick Redd.

We better be sure as hell he'd resign next year. But if he would, I'd be all for it. Our defense would even be much better than it is, and he's still be a very nice scoring option.

Living in California and watching several Kings games.. There are some uncertainties that are pretty obvious as to why he wouldn't be a good fit here in Cleveland.. He wants to be the #1 option for a team. He makes poor decisions with the ball i.e. holding the ball for too long and forcing bad shots. More often than not, he thinks way too much himself and not about the team.. Also, what position will he be playing for us? What we are trying to look for is to improve our offense. We are already one of the top defensive teams in the league with Szczerbiak as our starting SG.. I prefer to try and make a trade with Milwaukee for Redd.

Ron is too much of a ball-stopper and is a poor spot shooter. I don't see him meshing too well with Lebron, though we would be ridiculous defensively - him and Lebron would be a terror against opposing wings

It's easy to say get Miller and Artest, but how in the world would the Cavs pull that off? Unless Artest opts out and decides for whatever reason he'll take any pay cut necessary to win one with Lebron (or Gilbert was completely and emphatically honest when he said he'll do whatever it takes to put a winning team around Lebron). Getting one of Miller or Artest is tough enough, but both? No way.
