Trade Speculation O'Neal to Cleveland

Post#1 » by TheOUTLAW » Fri May 30, 2008 1:38 am

Trade rumors keep coming hot and heavy, though most of them are aren't worth repeating.

But here's one intriguing one I heard today: The Cleveland Cavaliers could trade Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Anderson Varejao and the No. 19 pick to Indiana for Jermaine O'Neal.

It's an interesting idea, but when I called team sources to find out if there was any truth to it, they shot it down as bogus.

Still, I'd watch both teams closely. I think the Pacers will move O'Neal this summer if they can, and I think the Cavs are definitely going to try and strengthen the supporting cast this summer for LeBron's sake. A healthy O'Neal could be a big boon for the Cavs, and head coach Mike Brown, formerly with the Pacers, should know how to get the best out of him.

What do you guys think?

Didnt that rumor come out last week? It does look like there was another sentence tagged on at the end though saying that it was shot down as bogus, and I would certaintly hope so.

If that trade goes through, Ferry should immediately be fired. This is not prime JO we're talking about here...his knee is all **** up

I'd rather get Brand. And I highly doubt Z would be involved in a trade for either player. Nobody is going to rebuild around a 33 year old center. At this point in his career, Z only has value on a contender trying to win it all in the next couple of years.

I would rather get Brand, too. And I would love to get Paul and Howard as well...heck, Redd as our SG and we are ready to go!

speculations is brand is on the trading block. Redd is as well. I'd prefer Mike Miller, who also is on the trading block, over Redd.

Considering JO's injury situation -- giving up a first round pick is kind of too pricey for his injury risk combined with his salary. Besides, JO prefers to play PF and if we traded 'Z' -- he would have to play center a lot where he seems to rack up more injuries.

I too prefer Mike Miller to Redd taking into account more than just offensive skills.

I'd love O'Neal here, we could probably get him at a discount since he's not played at a high level this past season (if he played at all) and because Bird sucks as GM. I'd do the Z, AV and maybe a couple second rounders trade if we could also somehow get Carter from the Nets for Wally, Snow, 1st.

It probably would not be the best idea to get JO at this point of his career. His skills really diminished due to injury problems. I would still prefer to get someone like Brand or Redd.

The only way I would take JO is if there was another way to get another quality player as well..

He simply can't be the other player we bring in for help... But, if he was 1 of 2, than it wouldn't be so bad...

Way to many risks there...

I agree. JO alone would be a HUGE risk with his health. JO and another player (borderline all-star or Mike Miller level player) would be great though.

Some of these Pacer fans can be particularly annoying. They can't quite understand why this deal stinks for the Cavs. Sure O'Neal is better than Z (eventhough you can pencil Z in for 80+ games a year including playoffs while O'Neal has played in 44, 51,69 and 42 games in the last 4 years respectively). O'Neal costs too much and doesn't show up for work enough for him to be a viable option for the Cavs expecially in any scenario where the Cavs are giving up Z and Varejao.

That's too much to give, and giving up Z would be treading water.

JO can be had cheaply; offer some expirings and/or low picks for him or Zach Randolph, and you've got a solid 4 on the cheap.

I'd be willing to trade for him if the Pacers are interested in a combination of expirings, AV and/or Sasha, and picks. If the Pacers are looking to dump his contract, I'd consider taking Tinsley. He's too big of a question mark to give up Z for though.

Brand is not an option. We don't have anywhere near enough to get him.
