RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
using knowledge of recent reports from the team you follow most closely, please form an educated guess as to whom your team will select and why.
this is not about who you want your team to draft, but who you think they want to draft given the situation below.
after posting this thread in every board leading up to yours, i've got this Draft Board:
1. Chicago - Rose
2. Miami - Beasely
3. Minnesota - Mayo
4. Seattle - Bayless
5. Memphis - Love
6. New York - Westbrook
7. LA Clippers - Gordon
8. Milwaukee - B.Lopez
9. Charlotte - Randolph
10. New Jersey - Gallinari
11. Indiana - Augustin
12. Sacramento - Arthur
13. Portland - Alexander
14. Golden State - Rush
15. Phoenix - R.Lopez
16. Philadelphia - Jordan
17. Toronto - Hibbert
18. Washington - Greene
19. Cleveland - ??
i'm very interested to read your responses! you're on the clock!
don't forget to provide a reason why you think your teams management will draft player x given the situation above. please don't just post a name of a player, those are usually ignored for a more intelligent / in depth reply.

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
If the draft plays out this way I could see Koufas or Speights as the two highest players left on the Cavs board. Unfortunately I think one or both will be long gone before the Cavs selection on Thursday. Koufas has shown alot of improvement this past season at OSU and has been looking impressive in his workouts. The Cavaliers need a big man to eventually replace Ilgauskas. Koufas is a project but does seem to have a high upside. My selection for the Cavs is Kosta Koufas.

I would want Chris Dougals-Roberts right here,,I think th eguy gives us a great scoring option and a great pressence off the bench..

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
I kind of like Courtney Lee better than CDR, i think Lee is flying under the radar a little because he went to Western-Kentucky. But the guy can flat out shoot and he is a solid defender, he is 6'5 with a solid frame comparable to Brandon Roy imo...
I really dont care for Koufus because i dont think he will be a solid contributor for about 2 years, if the cavs were thinking about taking him i would rather go for Hibbert even though i am not super high on him either...
If we do go big at 19 i hope we can get that 32nd pick from seattle and look at pg/sg's Jamont Gordon and Kyle Weaver....

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
I would select Lee in that scenario. I like his size, his ability to slash and create along the baseline, and his defense.
I laugh at the Raptors fans for actually choosing Roy Hibbert as their pick. The Araujo lesson apparently has not been learned.

It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
^^One of the Cavs beatwriters, bob finnan, just had a chat on RCF. It seems the Cavaliers like Courtney Lee better than CDR. According to him Rush, Koufas and Speights are near the top of the Cavs board. Lee and Hickson are also candidates at #19. If big men Speights and Koufas are available I really don't see the Cavs passing them up..just my opinion though.

I still think it's between Koufos and Batum. I really do think that Batum has a good shot although the Cavs will take a serious look at the slow euro 7 footer to replace their current big slow euro (okay he's really not that slow). I could see them going with Speights as well.

koufos
edit: was in a rush last night. basically we'd pick koufos because we need young big men, he's a local kid, and he can score and possibly be our replacement for big Z.

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
What do you guys think of offering av to the raptors for that 17th pick, they are looking for a big and he could be a good fit there. If they arent able to trade it for a solid player i hear they like robin lopez who is compared to av but is still very raw.
We are ready to party ways with av so i think an extra pick 1st round pick could be good for him. We can just take Koufus at 17 if they really want him, then Courtney Lee at 19. And still look to get that 32nd pick from the sonics and take Jamont Gordon or Kyle Weaver...
We could end up with a big, sg, and a pg.....
Then we would still have all our expirings to pursue a trade...

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
^^I dunno...The Warriors have the #14 pick and could trade that for a veteran big man like Varejao. They also have a trade exception so the Cavs wouldn't have to take any players back. The Cavaliers could select Rush at 14 and a big man at 19? We've heard so much about Rush the past few weeks..gotta wonder if the Cavs really have interest or is it a huge smokescreen.
It appears they will make some kind of trade on Thursday even if it's just a minor deal to acquire a 2nd round pick..

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
looks like the most common names in this thread are lee and koufos, which is interesting because i don't believe either came in for a workout.
can anyone confirm that either one worked out for the team?

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
I don't really get the sudden fixation with Courtney Lee. The Cavs have always gone for guys that are long for their position and he's the exact opposite being a bit undersized and having short arms.

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
If the board turned out like this then its easily Koufas at our pick. Since Varejao is all but out the door, management has been looking to get a young big that could both contribute his rookie season but could also develop as time went on. At 19 a player with as much upside as Koufas has is an absolute no brainer. I really dont see the Cavs drafting a SG/SF who, lets face it, wont be a starter and would just get stuck in the logjam of quasi decent other guys we already have at the position, and if you honestly think Coach Brown would let a rookie SG/SF play more than spot minutes then pass whatever you got this way because it goes against everything he has showed us so far.

Re: RealGM fan mock draft: Cavs on the clock!
I'm actually going to go a different route and say Speights. I think because the thing that was questionable was his work ethic and his conditioning but his workouts have stated that he is very much in shape but falls in love with the jumper which may actually benefit him in Cleveland with Lebron's driving but still his ability to bang due to playing with Jokim Noah and Al Horford. Plus he is a rebounder which fits in and his IQ is better than Drew Goodens.
I would like to think that Batum actually wants his value to drop(heart issues) and in a sense Cleveland will probably want that also so we can pick him up a late 1st or early 2nd and pick him up. If he gets a non-garunteed contract and only gets a 1-year or 2-year deal he may be worth more(a la Carl Landry). But for a wing if we dont move up to pick up Rush than I would pick late and get Batum or Bill Walker.

Having seen Speight's workout interviews I really doubt we can even talk about any form of IQ in his case...
