what are we trying do to? where are we going?

Post#1 » by LiquidFire » Fri Jun 27, 2008 8:53 pm

Our biggest problem is our backcourt(sg) and we have anough bigs, yet we get three more?

our roster now looks like:

PG: Delonte/ Boobie/ Jones
SG: Pavs
SF: Bron Wally
PF:Ben/ Joe/ Hickson/ Kaun/ Jackson
C: Big Z/ AV/ Allred/ Dwayne Jones

i dont understand at all..

do you think well trade a big or a couple for a sg?

I have no problem with the volume of bigs. Fact is Kaun won't even be available for 2 years and all of our bigs except the one that is likely to be gone fairly soon are over 30. Not to mention all of our young bigs are in need of at least a years seasoning.

Can Delonte or Felton play SG? If so, i might do something with AV for Felton? just a thought..

I also think Mike Miller might be had considering he was just traded..

I hate kenny rhoda, he was on the radio saying that we almost have a deal done for barion davis.....supposedly a package around av/wally/dj. Then he gets on and says its probably not gonna happen after everyone got excited. I wonder if ferry called him and said shut the f up lol or he was making it up like most of the stuff he says....

You guys were on the right track when you brought in West and Wally, that brings shooting for Lebron, you defense is usual is always good, I just think you need to get that one star?

IMO someone like Caron Butler, Michael Redd.

Where are we going?

I think it'd pretty obvious that we will trade for a guard and AV will be gone. The roster tells the whole story.

I hope we don't add Redd or Carter..I want someone in the backcourt that can create shots. Right now LeBron is the only creator we have on the team as Gibson and Delonte are basically combo guards and not pure points. I don't see the offense changing much at all if these type players are added. Actually it will take away from Redd's game to plant him at the 3 point line the way we currently use Wally or Boobie.

Chauncey Billups would be perfect but we know Detroit isn't going to hand him over to us.

Kidd would also be a nice add but that's pretty much not going to happen.

Baron Davis is intriguing and we all know Fegan wants Varejao in Golden State. The Warriors also appear to need some help in their frontcourt. Would Andy/Wally and possibly a draft pick be enough to get Baron to Cleveland? Baron has made it known he wants a big contract extension so it's not out of the realm of possibility he gets dealt.

Raymond Felton is another possibility and Charlotte has also shown interest in Varejao. The Cavs cannot trade Andy to Charlotte until Dec. 5th. Felton is a pure PG, quick and can create shots but is a little bit undersized and not a great shooter. He's someone that would definitely add another dimension to the Cavs.

Barbosa is another guy who I like but doubt the Cavs have the pieces to acquire someone like that.

Apparently Mo Williams may be on the trade block but of all the guys I mentioned he's probably the one I like least for the Cavs. He's a scorer but just too undersized and a poor defender. Seems to me you would need to start a big SG who can defend the perimeter next to him in the backcourt. I just don't see a Boobie/Mo or Delonte/Mo backcourt working.

:o

Smooth's got it here... Its pretty obvious we are loading up on bigs in order to EVENTUALLY make a move for a guard with the main piece being the big that clearly wants out. Eventually is the key word here... patience is a virtue.

I'm still not positive that is what we are going to do. These guys are not ready to play yet and Kaun is not going to be here for at least 2 years. There is a good chance that we move Varejao, but like I've said before, Varejao is still our only legitimate backup at the 5.

I think we'll make a move for a wing player. First we'll try and get a steal/deal, and if that doesn't pan-out, then we'll add one with the MLE. If we have to get a wing via FA, then I expect us to acquire a center through a trade.

Ideally, we'll be able to acquire a wing through a trade and sign a big or 2 with the MLE and bi-annual exception.

Golden State is DEFINITELY interested in Varejao, but they want more than Andy and some expirings for Baron.

The rumor was that Ferry was offering Wally/Andy and DJ, and Mullin countered with Wally, Gibson,Andy. I don't know if that is true...just something I heard.

If it was true, I'm not sure that Ferry is willing to part with Gibson yet, so Baron may be dead.

Vince Carter could pop-up in a deal again. Problem there is that Thorn would want Simmons included in the deal... not sure the Cavs are willing to go that route. Pretty doubtful anyway.

One player to keep an eye on is David West. The Hornets almost traded him on Thursday, and he is definitely on the block. There is a legit possibility that the Cavaliers may take a swing for him. A deal mfor West would probably include Peterson, and would likely take Wally, Sasha and a first round pick (possibly two) to get done. But with questions surrounding West's health, I'm not sure if the Cavaliers are willing to gamble.

The Clippers have Corey and Elton, who are both a possibility, and Miami has been fielding offers for Shawn Marion...another possibility - especially since Dwight Howard is injured, and Miami is looking to reload for a deep run into next season's playoffs.

Would we do a Jamal Tinsley, rights to Brandon Rush, and right to swap picks in 09 for Eric Snow and cash or future 2nd?

I think it would be tough but I may do that.

I'm pretty sure that the Pacers don't want to swap picks in 09. There really is no way that we shouldn't have a better record than them. I'm pretty sure we'd have to give just give up our first. Now I think I'd do that but I would have to keep the future second.
