It seems like no matter what Ferry does, he always gets raked over the coles

I'm pretty sure that you mean he was raked over the coals. Otherwise I agree with the sentiment of this article. It is kinda tough being patient when you see teams like Milwaukee and Philadelphia making big moves. Of course, it's always tough when you don't have cap space and you really don't have any good players to trade except for capspace. Of course, several of us have been arguing that the expirings actually grow in value as the season progresses.

I refuse to be a Ferry apologist. Look at that quote Outlaw picked out -- Ferry is not raked over the coals for whatever he does, he is raked over the coals for his poor decisions. You can call it Monday Morning Quarterbacking but I call it job accountability. Ferry jumped the gun on Larry Hughes, signed DJ and Donyell to big deals, and has just now, maybe, found a half-way decent PG. FERRY'S free agent signings have been more detrimental to the overall success of this team than Paxson injudiciously trading away our picks. The LH trade in the middle of the year, although prudent, was only to correct the mess that Ferry, himself, had made.

People aren't mad at Ferry because he's not making moves now, they are mad because he has yet to make the move that pushes this team over the top. I think most rational people understand that Ferry hasn't had a great opportunity to pull the trigger on a deal this offseason but I also think most rational people recognize that Ferry has struck out in almost every at-bat.

Besides, who cares what the fans think; articles that criticize fans smell like pure homerism and defending Ferry's performance up to this point is misguided. I do agree with the basic premise, however, which is that waiting until later in the offseason to make a move will only help our chances at getting a solid player. The point I'm trying to make is that Ferry has not earned the right to sit back and not be criticized -- it may be the right thing but patience isn't always prudent with a ticking clock and I think the fans recognize that as much as the GM does and maybe value it more than him.

I am not going to say that the Larry Hughes signing was bad. Seriously there were only 3 guards we were going after: Ray Allen, Michael Redd, and Larry Hughes. Allen and Redd used us to get better contracts. Then Hughes used us because he was the only one left.

Its funny because if Ferry wouldnt have signed Hughes and he stayed in Washington or went to GS in systems where he fits, we would have been complaining about why we didnt get him.

We didnt look at any bigs because we got Marshall and everyone was fine with that so he had to take a guard and Hughes is what we was left with. He didnt fit perfect but I think we all knew that from the beginning, even Ferry. But he was the only one left.

What sucked about that off season was that we (Cavs fans) were demanding that Ferry do something. We were expecting a big splash in the free agent market since we had so much money to spend. However, the guys that were available really were not available to us. In retrospect we would have done much better to focus on less expensive free agents. But, I question whether we'd have been happy with that. I was not happy about the Hughes signing at the time mainly because everything I'd heard about him said that he wouldn't be a good fit (I really wanted Johnson and have every since we skipped him to take Diop). That being said, all those other guys were just using us to get a big deal out of their home teams. To be honest, Hughes probably was too we just offered more than Washington wanted to. I can't completely bash the moves though since we weren't a playoff team before them and have been every season since. Sure they could have been better and probably should have been, but the biggest problem was the depleted nature of the team before LeBron and the pointless trading of picks as well.

I understand what you're saying about putting everything in context -- but speaking in blunt adjectives, good, mediocre, or bad, the only descriptor can be bad. It was a bad signing because it didn't work. Ferry and Brown are responsible for making things work. They are accountable; end of story.

Who else did you want us to sign, Bobby Simmons? He was a solid choice at the time.

Hughes could have turned out to be a decent player here but his injuries here killed his career.

First of all, look at the roster he had and look at the roster now.

Second, the reason he hasn't made a move to push us over the top is because he hasn't had the assets to make a move because of Paxson. No tradeable assets and no draft picks do not equal success. Our only choice was to build through free agency (the only possible way at the time) and it killed us because no one can build through FA.

Getting something for Jiri Welsch and Luke Jackson?

Acquiring 3 draft picks in the past 3 drafts, along with the three original he had.

The only time he struck out was with the Donyell Marshall signing.

Rushing things when the clock is ticking is not the right approach either.
