camby went for a second.. that seems to leave a hole in their frontline- with only a couple injury prone players to fill it..

AV for JR Smith resigned at MLE

Why: AV seems out of favor with us and the drafting of JJ. Denver needs a big. JR would be an offensive machine for us.

Yeah, that's really big news around the Boards about Campy.

I wouldn't mind the deal you are proposing, but I think it would have to be a package the would include their backup center (Hunter). IMO, they will sign Smith and use the trade exemption they got in the Camby deal for something else at a later date.

I also think that they will now be competing, well possibly competing, with us later in the season for guys to help push them over the hump. (I say possibly because a couple teams in the West improved which could knock Denver down a lil- and they gave up their starting center for nothing so who knows if they will even be in the playoffs, etc.) But if they are, they can offer teams a straight salary dump for the TE while we have to offer Expirings. VC comes to mind. AI/Vince/Melo/Martin/Whoever is a pretty good lineup. NJ gets a straight salary dump AND keeps VC away from Cle... that could really hurt us.

Are you sure it works that way? If they are over the cap, they can still dump the trade exception straight for another contract?

Their trade exception isn't big enough to take on Carter, and you can't package it with a player. So, we don't have to worry about that. Plus, do you REALLY want Vince Carter? His contract runs through 11/12 where he makes 18 million... a long contract for someone who might not even be exactly what we need....

How many times does is it neccesary to say it . Vince Carters last year 18 Million is a team option. There's very little chance that this ever gets picked up.

Even without the final year, his contract would still be 3 more years for nearly 50 million. I don't see why the Cavs would ever cut into 2010 that largely when they can sign a big name free agent in addition to (and before signing) Lebron.

This trade actually looks like nothing was actually swapped between LA and Denver besides Camby going to the Clippers. I anticipate a fast rebuilding, even though they're out of the playoff race for next year. Iverson's contract runs out at the end of the season, so he's trade bait for later in the season too. I wonder how he'd do with Lebron, and if the Cavs can't unload Wally's/Eric Snow's contract by the trading deadline, it's possible they could throw Denver about $2-3 million in late season savings by making a move like that.

Denver receives a Player Trade Exception (worth $10-million or so, I believe) that can be used anytime in the next 365 days to trade for a player. They can complete that trade if the net salary increase to their cap computation is within the PTE. Or they can use parts of the PTE in multiple trades, up to the point that they take back the entire value of the PTE. This PTE gives Denver great flexibility. They can use it at the 2008-09 trade deadline, or during the 2009 draft, or at the beginning of the July 2009 free agent signing period on a S&T.

Denver cannot, however, trade the PTE outright for another player. The "trade" must have a player or rights to a player leaving Denver for another team.

The only defensive player they had was given away for basically nothing.

Actually Martin is there best defensive player- or at least that is what many Nuggets fans say.
