JJ Hickson Summer League: Game 2

Post#1 » by DowJones » Thu Jul 17, 2008 4:20 am

I didn't see the game but he had 18 points and 6 rebounds on 7-15 shooting. This was a solid performance coming off of his 26 and 9 in game 1. I would have to see the game-footage to see how he got those 18 points. The best thing about his 1st game was that he got those 26 points the way he would do it in a real NBA game. It wasn't like he was just a product of the summer league.

I would like to see Hickson grab a few more rebounds though. I would like to see him get about 10 rebounds per game. I noticed that he tended to drift a bit on the boards in the 1st game.

I think he shot poorly from the line though.. not sure of the exact %. didn't see the game either, so that's coming from rcf..

He was 4-8 from the FT line. He does need to improve in that area as well, but imo he has the touch to do it. Once he really practices, I could see him being an honest 75% shooter from the FT Line.

Thus far, the areas JJ needs to improve the most are free throwing shooting, his range, and his defense. Obviously in Mike Brown's system, he'll learn and improve plenty as far as defense goes. And at 19, I'm not worried about his shooting, as he has plenty of time to improve.

JJ's stats for the 2 summer league games (in 29 mpg):

22 points (60% FG%)
7.5 rebounds (4.5 offensive)
.5 blocks
0 assists

i hated the pick however he is playing very well even though its summer league. hopefully he can grow from this practice and preseason and be able to come in and contribute. keep proving me wrong and turn out to be a very solid player.

FWIW, he shot around 67% FT in college, which is a good sign that his shot (in-game and at the line) has tons of potential to improve.
