So yes I stated earlier about the whole LA having capspace crap but Clips are in win mode while Memphis is in the same situation but is definately not winning now and has to figure out what to do. I think a trade that I'm about to list can greatly help both teams. Memphis stated they will not add any cap but are only banking on a trade for one of their PGs since they are sitting on the minimum ($44mil / 75% of the cap) but what if they had an expiring or two and a player, and picks. They can easily get something better with a combination of things than just a PG straight up since they are thin in the frontcourt.
Mem trades:
Darko Milicic(14.5 mil left on contract)
2010 Lakers 1st rd pick( would have worked better if they had 2009 2nd, but they dont have a 2nd in '09 or '10)
for
Wally Szczerbiak (13 mil exp)
Anderson Varajao (5.8 mil exp)
2009 Cleveland 1st rd pick
2009 Chicago 2nd rd pick (early 2nd)(may not need to be included)
cash(Max)
Why? Memphis stay under the cap by about 3 mil. We get them out of Darko's contract and replace him with AV who should be better and will likely start C for them with a good lineup of : AV, Warrick, Gay, Mayo, and Conley. AV is perfect because Mayo,Gay,and Warrick are scoring machines and when they went small Warrick played C when they would have worked better with a real center and didnt have faith in Darko or Kwame. Wally gives them the shooting they would miss with Mike Miller leaving. But if they are waiting for a straight trade with Lowrey or Critten(s/p) they now can combine them with either Wally for a big contract or AV for a small contract, or a pick for a straight trade. They end up paying almost exactly the same as if they kept Darko since we also send cash they just get better pieces like our 1st rder and optional 2nd which may not need to be included.
Why? Cleveland gets Darko. Who-hoo. No I'm kidding. but maybe Z can get something out of him but I dont know or care right now. We get an $11.8 mil trade exemption to throw at a player. So we now are in the running for Josh Smith( who doesnt want to play in Atl with Woodson) and he wanted 10mil to 12mil, Andre Iguodala (who sounds like he would like to stay w/ 76ers but sounds like he can be lured away for a better deal or team) and wants 11-13mil, and I'm not sure if Monte resigned yet but he is definately in the same ballpark. We can possibly get one of these teams to do a s&t so they dont fear losing their player for nothing and if we still have the exemption try to get another player or during the season use it in a straight trade for a team looking for cap relief. Plus we still have the MLE.
