i have a cavs confession.

Post#1 » by Canomad » Thu Jul 24, 2008 10:00 am

I am more of a LeBron James fan then a cavs fan and will most likely root for whichever team he plays for in the future. let me break it down i dont live in a nba city im from pittsburgh. so its hard for me to adopt a team and stick with it due to my town not having a team. however i am a cavs fan before anything as of right now based on lebron james. is anyone else like me and if not please except me as a cavs fan cuz i have no real home i follow players and whatever team is exciting.

I'm originally from Cleveland so I will forever and always be a Cavs, Indians, and Browns fan. I do, however, despise Ohio State.

I honestly had no idea that one could actually be from Cleveland and dislike (much less despise) Ohio State. Well as a native Clevelander, I am a fan of all my local teams including OSU.

I never understood the love for OSU growing up. They're in Columbus, not Cleveland. It's not like people root for Ohio U. If CSU were any good, I'd cheer for them in sports, as I did this past season for basketball. With OSU, I've just always hated them. That and I was always an ND fan (which ended up being my alma mater), so OSU and Michigan were 2 teams I've always hated.

OSU was always the defacto big college that people rooted for. Well of course unless they were rooting for Michigan or ND (like yourself). Heck, I am a University of Cincinnati alum and I root for OSU even if they are playing each other (of course I root for UC at any other times though).

Oh believe me I know, I just never really understood why. I figured more people would root for their alumni than OSU.

Hmm Hydro I like your posts, don't like your anti-OSU mindset. We are gonna have to work on that :D

If you are from/live in the state of Ohio it's sacrilegious to not be an OSU fan, you should have been indoctrinated at birth. Unless you are a die hard Cincinnati fan or something, I know a few guys like that (they get a pass)

I'm a Cavs fan and an OSU fan when OSU is not playing UCLA, which is often...

I love the Browns and Indians..

However, I am a HUGE, and I mean HUGE Yankees fan...Hell, I've probably been to Yankee stadium 5 times more in the last two years to watch my Yankees play than I have watched the Indians play at the Jake/Prog

Yankee fan? How the heck did that happen?

I do live in Cincinnati however and there are alot of non OSU fans down this way. There are just a ton of ND and Kentucky fans down here in the corner of the state. Sure we have our fair share of UC, Xavier, Dayton and Miami fans as well but it is kind of divided among those groups. That's why it is so interesting that Cleveland is such a pro OSU area and you don't have people really rooting for Pitt or Penn State to any significant degree.

Nothing at all wrong with being a fan of an individual player more than a team--that's precisely how the NBA marketed itself for the better part of the last 20 years. I'm not a Mavs fan at all, but I really enjoy watching Dirk, ditto vintage CWebb in Sactown.

I had no choice but to be a Buckeye fan. I went to the Horseshoe for my first game at exactly 3 weeks old. And since my beloved Ohio U. won exactly 8 football games in my 6 falls there, I never had a reason to stop. Where I went to HS though there was quite a bit of Michigan and Notre Dame fans. Probably like 50/25/25, with more for Michigan hoops because they had just won the national title before my senior year of HS.

It's real funny because now I live in Michigan, but where I live it's predominantly MSU and Notre Dame country. There are loads of UM fans around here too but it's not nearly like how OSU dominates Ohio.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Agreed. If LeBron leaves I will no longer cheer for him (unless its in 15 years or so ala Jordan to the Wizards). I've loved the Cavs my whole life and as I've said on here a few times am proud to say that I saw more than a handful of wins in the 02-03 season live. I also love the Browns, Indians, and Buckeyes. Oh and I support the Crew as well (my guilty pleasure). I suppose if I cared about hockey my team would be the Blue Jackets as well, but who really cares about hockey anyway?

I did grow up a slight Redskin, Cub, and Notre Dame fan as well, but only because my parents lived in D.C. and Chicago for years and they themselves became fans. Hard to break family ties.

Dont blame you. I would seriously hate the Cavs too if I were a Wizard fan.

Please, the franchise won't collapse if LeBron leaves, does Dan Gilbert seem like a quitter to you?
