First and foremost, does this mean you are going to become a Cavalier fan?

BMac, you silly

I guess it really depends on what kind of amenities you are looking for as well as what you are looking to spend. When I last lived in Cleveland I lived in Lakewood which I think is a great neighborhood with good access to downtown and great views of the Lake (not to mention, it really does not snow on the west side nearly as much as it does on the east side). I'm also a huge fan of the Shaker Square area (I did grow up over there afterall). You might also look into Cleveland Heights as well as the Coventry area (especially if you are attending Case).

I love all parts of Cleveland as long as its in the burbs. Parts of the city have real issues. If you love snow the east side gets around three times more than the west side over the whole winter. Finally if your buying you a home there is a big difference between taxes in the burbs. Be aware of that. Cleveland magazine annually has an article on this. The Cuyahoga county auditor's web site also shows the differences. If you move outside the county insurance costs drop too. Good luck too bad the economy here is not what it used to be.

well id be workin in the east side in a pharmacy, but i wont know till i graduate, what i do know is tat i will be either goin to Case or CSU, which are both on the east side....i know the west side gets less snow, but would it make sense to travel from the west side to east side every day?....there is a chance i get a store in the west side, and only have to go to class on the east side on the weekend, in tat case, i guess itd be ok to reside in the west side

and yes, im a lebron fan, does tat count? :)

and i really appreciate all the advice

Depends on how far west you are. CSU isn't really on the west side, it's downtown. Case isn't all that far east either although it might be further than you'd want to commute regularly. Oh and what Kiwi said is absolutely true. Taxes in Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights are absolutely bananas.

Lakewood is a good choice for the West side. Although, it does have a strong homosexual population, fyi.

People always say that but I swear it doesn't seem heavily homosexual when you live there. In fact there are just loads of single women in and around Lakewood. That being said, I think it's a great choice especially if you are only having to go to Case once a week. You'd just grab 2 to the MLK exit and that'd take you to University Circle all in about 20 mins. Of course, it has been several years since I lived there, but my niece lived there before she moved to Westlake and loved it over there as well. I do think you should consider the Shaker Square area as well (although it is a little more expensive).

Tons of bars in Lakewood too, if you like that sort of thing. I grew up on the east side, moved to the west side for school and stuff. I'm in Berea now and I love being so close to the Metroparks where you can go jogging or biking on the trails of the Rocky River Reservation.

Its real close to Cleveland so commuting anywhere is no problem. I think the west side is more 'cleaner' too than the east side.

That said like Outlaw mentioned I grew up around Shaker too and that area is really nice ($$). Historic, huge homes, lots of churchs, alot of trees everywhere (that really does count), very promiment members of the neighborhood live there. You'd be really close to Case there and I've always liked our museums which are close to there too. Little Italy/Coventry rocks.

When I lived in Lakewood I really didn't go out in Lakewood all that often, but you are correct there are dozens of bars in Lakewood (especially along Detroit). I went to a pub crawl on Detroit, boy are there alot of bars. What I also liked along with the proximity to Rocky River Reservation there is also Lakewood park right on Lake Ave overlooking Lake Erie (I loved that since I play tennis). It is crazy on the 4th of July however. I swear I felt shell shocked from the proximity of the fireworks from Edgewater.

Also, I'd say check out the Southern suburbs. The commute is a bit longer (25 mins) but it's also a very nice area. Check out Broadview Heights, Brecksville, Strongsville, North Royalton, Independence.

I go to CSU and live in Broadview Heights. It's a nice area, but not as busy as Lakewood.

I just moved out to Cleveland as well as my fiancee was starting med school out at Case. We ended up moving out near the Shaker Square area, and it's a pretty nice area. We can walk to a lot of things we need, including the Rapid, and my fiancee is just a 5-10 minute drive from campus at Case.

Parma's interesting. Slow pitch softball out there's a hoot. I love it. The only thing that would make it more surreal would be if there was a keg at 2nd base and you had to chug a beer before advancing.

The south suburbs are nice, I'm in the sw corner of Parma, the taxes arent too bad, and the ppl are cool for the most part. In North Royalton, you will have higher taxes and the water and sewer rates are close to insane, but better schools for when you have kids (if you stay that long). Some areas of Middleburg Hts, and Berea offer a little larger homes and yards as well.
Are you planning on buying or renting? that makes a big difference. I know that just out of school I wasnt ready to buy, and rented on the westside of Cleveland near where I grew up, but I havent lived there for about a dozen years, and it doesnt look as friendly as it used to.

See what I mean, west or east people here are nice. Cleveland is very old school, a nice place for the most part (except for Cleveland proper). One last thing, no matter how far you move in the county its usually let than 30 minutes away to any place else. Cleveland has a better than average road system for the size population that is here. Good luck dude.

Hey, I take that Cleveland proper comment personally. I grew up in Cleveland (Cleveland city, Shaker Heights school system).
