If Antonio McDyess gets a buy out in DEN...

Post#1 » by cavsfan#1 » Mon Nov 3, 2008 11:52 pm

There is definitely alot of talk about him being bought out and then returning to DET.... but what if some reporter gets him to admit as much and then he is forced into a Jerry Stackhouse situation except post trade?.... Is he then not allowed to resign with Detroit?

Either way I think Antonio McDyess would be perfect for the Cavs, as everyone knows he (like Mo Williams was) is a Cavs killer. He also provides us with the scoring PF that everyone wants, good defense, and veteran leadership.

I think it would be brilliant to get him away from Detroit.

He'd be a good fit on the Cavs. I agree

I just came on to post this. I think we can possibly work a deal out. 2 year with team options. Or even a 1 year tender. I think he would be a perfect mentor for JJ, better than Wallace or Z since he knows a thing or two about being an undersized scoring PG.

antonio is going to be bought out, however there is no chance of him ever signing with the cavs. he has already stated that he doesnt want to leave detroit, he likes playing there and as others have stated he does put up real good numbers agasint us. i fully expect him to wait his 30 days then return to detroit.

IMO, Dice would make a good replacement for Joe Smith.

The Nuggets can still trade Dice to any team by himself -- the CAVs have contracts to make it happen.

Sign McDyess; then trade Andy,Pavs, 1st round pick in December for J Rich.

There is no way that I'd trade Varejao, Sasha and a first for Jason Richardson. I just don't think his numbers are legitimate and he's not worth 40 mil over the next 3 years.

I'm seriously starting to embrace my Old Guyedness. Welcome to the club. However as a newlywed, you might become persona non grata so we need you to recruit a replacement. I'm starting to get lonely around here.

McDyess would be the perfect piece, which is why I don't see it happening unless Den gets desperate and just wants to dump him for expirings (which we have)

Hopefully they don't buy him out so he can return to Det. I'm tired of watching him bury us with 20 footers all game long.

So now that the celtics apparently have interest in McDyess him going to another team doesnt seem as ridiculous?

Of course there are no reports of the cavs showing any interest, but I can only think maybe McDyess is so pissed by the trade and the lose of money due to the probable buy out that maybe he will sign somewhere else because he feels slighted by the pistons?

I don't know if the Dice will end up with the CAVs, but IMO -- they will make strong run for him as suggested in Brain Windhorst's lastest blog entry for the PD:

Cavaliers Insider: A battle for McDyess?

McDyess will head back to the Pistons. Perhaps, but that's far from assured for several reasons, which is where the Cavs come in.

McDyess is a versatile player who can play both power forward and center who is a strong shot-blocker, rebounder and outside shooter. He's also a strong locker room presence. All of which would make him a perfect fit with the Cavs. It would probably come at the sacrifice of playing time for rookie J.J. Hickson, but would fill the role vacated by veteran forward Joe Smith after the trade for Mo Williams.

So why would he consider the Cavs? McDyess has a good relationship with Ben Wallace, stemming from the time they played together in Detroit. The Cavs are also a championship contender, which would likely be a prerequisite for McDyess. But there's also money and that may well be a significant factor.

The Cavs can offer him more money than anyone else, and money may be an issue if he has to take a severe pay-cut to be bought out. Here is what each team can offer...

-Detroit ($1.9 million)
-Boston ($2.2 million)
-San Antonio ($2.1 million)
-Cleveland ($5.2 million)

As you can see, that is over double what the other 3 contenders can offer him. Cleveland also has a role for him to step right into and from that article it sounds like he and Ben Wallace are good friends. I think they both are from Alabama?

I am not saying it will happen, but there is a chance. Dice would be PERFECT for us. As much as I liked Joe Smith, Dice is an upgrade. He would also be a great for JJ Hickson.

If the Lakers get McDyess I might stop watching the NBA. How many times in the last 10-15 years is that team gonna have a loaded roster. So tired of the same teams always getting guys in these buyout situations.
