yep - where are those bulls fans who were saying they robbed us in that trade because they were able to dump Ben Wallace?

Ben is only ranked #3 in the league as most effective defenders as we have 4 of the top 7

Defensive Rating
1. Dwight Howard-ORL 93.8
2. Kevin Garnett-BOS 94.9
3. Ben Wallace-CLE 95.0
4. Anderson Varejao-CLE 96.2
5. LeBron James-CLE 96.2
6. Rajon Rondo-BOS 97.7
7. Zydrunas Ilgauskas-CLE 98.1

Maybe the Wiz will trade for him. That would be ironic.

In a related development, the Blazers are threatening to sue anyone who lets Darius Miles try and play again so they don't have to eat his $18M injury settlement. Ah, good times!

Sad that these two used to be on our team!

and the NBA has responded by saying that it supports anyone who signs Miles.

I guess the big stink is that his salary would be charged to portland, and they wouldn't be able to offer a max contract to anyone in the summer of 2010.

Bottom line is that Miles could sue the Trailblazers if nobody signs him just because they've made this announcement. You can't deprive someone of the opportunity to make a living. Very stupid of them to announce this.

Although I definately don't want to see Miles in a Cavs uniform ever again. I am happy for him that Memphis just signed him to another 10 day contract. I just read our owners response to Portland. Has any other owner responded to this "threat"? How could the Blazers prove any team is trying to intentionally hurt their cap space? It's their own fault in the deal they gave Miles.

Here's Dan Gilbert's response to Portland
“With all due respect…although the Cleveland Cavaliers have no interest in signing Darius Miles and will not be signing Darius Miles,” Gilbert wrote, “I find your email quite peculiar from two standpoints:

“1. It’s dead wrong. I believe that all 30 NBA teams were and are fully aware of the terms and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement as to which all teams and the NBA are a party to, including the Portland Trailblazers.

“2. Are legal threats through a mass email the best way to circumvent the known potential consequences that could result from the Trailblazers decisions and actions they took with respect to Darius Miles?

“I fully understand the frustration you and your team’s ownership must be feeling in regards to this situation, but a preemptive threat of ‘litigation’ directed at all of your partners through a group email does not sit well with me and seems to be incongruent with the spirit of keeping a ‘fiduciary duty’ and good ‘partner-like duty’ to your ‘NBA joint venturers.’

“I would think there has got to be a better tactic than this one.”
