How would you feel if there is no move?

Post#1 » by DowJones » Mon Feb 16, 2009 2:24 pm

If Cleveland doesn't make a trade before the deadline, how would you feel?

I would be ok with it to a certain extent. If there is very little in the way of trades then I will assume that the market wasn't as buyer-friendly as everyone is saying. If other teams get some good deals, I will be fairly disappointed. I don't really buy into the notion that our team right now is good enough. I think we "could" win a title, but I don't think we are ahead of Boston or the Lakers unless we get home-court advantage. I think an extra piece could put us over the top.

I would be ok with it. I'm just mad everybody calling our role-players trash and they think they should get more value back and I'm like hell no you would never get anything remotely close to that. Back to the point, I think at this point we're pretty much lock to stay put.

Well people think that the Cavs players are good until they are talking about trades. It's silly but I've come to expect it.

Before Z and Delonte went down, nobody was looking urgently for a trade. I do think Wally and Snow's expiring contracts have never been worth more, given the economy. That said, the Cavs are one of 4-5 teams that can legitimately win the tite:

East:
Cavs, Celtics, Magic (Only IF Nelson returns healthy)

West:
Lakers, Spurs

In my mind, nobody else has a shot. even the Magic seem marginal unless they catch some breaks.

It would be nice to get a 4th big somehow - either snow for camby or Joe Smith after a buyout works. Or a healthy SG for cheap.

It'd be hard to turn down amare if he can be had without disrupting our core, but we don't make a major overhaul even for him.

Stand pat and I like our chances with the roster we have as long as we get healthy before the playoffs.

I still think we need a big, but then I always think we need a big. It just hurts me anytime I see a team get an offensive rebound on us.

Horrible, because we can't beat L.A with this team.

I don't think that is true (all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding). If we are at full strength, I think we can take the Lakers (without Bynum). If they have Bynum we are severly in need of another big.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cavs just stand pat at the deadline. But I would be if we made a trade for Amare. I wouldn't mind chasing after big men like Camby or Kaman or just simply bringing Joe Smith back though.. Just remember that we are off to the best start in team history and we were playing without one of our starters for quite some time now. It'd be interesting to see what happens within the next couple of days.

I think making a move really depends on the price. Would you give up JJ for Camby? How bout for Miller and Salmons? JJ is the player most teams are after, IMO. So it really depends on how much we value him. By the looks of it, if the Amare deal doesn't go down, I think the odds of us staying pat is pretty good unless another team gives in- which could become very likely in a couple of days. I do agree, however, that we do need another big that can provide at least 15-20 minutes a game.

Snow cannot be traded straight-up for Camby.... Taylor or Novak would need to be included.

Ian Thomas says that it's more likely that Kaman gets moved - and I believe that Hollinger said something similar.

I still think we are getting Amare...

...However, if we didn't make any moves...I'd be okay with it. I think if we are healthy, we can win as we are.

I would be pissed. You don't just let Wally and Snow's contract go for nothing. We signed Andy to a one year deal to use him as trade bait. We are not going to sign Andy to the type of deal he wants (you KNOW he's going to ask for even more money then he did last summer), so he could potentially walk for nothing as well.

Most of all, I would be pissed if we don't make a move because as constructed we can not beat Boston, LA, Spurs, or the Magic in a 7 game series. Our big man rotation is not enough to compete with the frontcourts of these teams.

We are headed for another 2nd round exit if we don't make a move for a true starting PF.

We can beat ALL of them as currently constructed, when the team is 100% healthy. We haven't even played S.A. this year, Jameer Nelson is out for the season...so Orlando can't beat us, We're 1-1 with Boston....and L.A. hasn't faced a healthy Cavs team yet.

This is tough. On one hand, this team is performing at an ultimate pace, with the players they have. On the other hand, we may lose 4 extremely valuable assets in the offseason (Wally, Andy, Sasha, Snow) and not see a single player return. That is scary in my opinion

I'd be fine with it. We’re going to be a 60-win team, on top of that we have the upside LeBron brings come playoff time.

no we didn't. We didn't even sign Andy, Charlotte did, we matched. We'll sign him this offseason too. In this market, he's not going to get the kind of offers he thought he would.

I will still feel solidly that we have a shot at the championship. This team as is right now can beat Boston, San Antonio, Orlando and LA in a series. LA presents a different challenge than the others with their length. I think maybe Cavs fans just are worred about that IF we do end up in the Finals again. Wally has been good for us, but DWest and Kinsey should be back soon. Get what we can get for him. If that's another big great, if not lets give Hickson some more minutes and roll with it. I'm with you guys though, I'd love to get a SG or another veteran big for this run.

he most certainly can. The salaries match up perfectly. They no longer match up when you start adding players from the clippers side. Do you make it a point to have factual errors in all of your posts?

A couple of you mentioned that the lakers haven't played us at full strength yet. Well that's true both ways. Kobe dislocated his finger the first game. The second game kobe was very sick and bynum was gone. they waxed us both times. Sorry, but delonte isn't going to solve issues with guarding bynum and pau.

For those reasons, i'd be extremely disappointed with the front office/organization if they don't improve the roster with a deal by the deadline.
