Today being Mar.1st, the last day players can be added to rosters to qualify for the play-offs. What can we do for other teams so they might cut someone lose? What do they get out of it? Why would they just do it today, instead of, say later in the week? ( 1day hurts us ) Just wondering how this works.

- We cant do a lot for other teams to persuade them to buy out a player other than maybe give a phone call or two.

- It helps other teams financially to buy out a player because they end up paying less money to the player in the long run.

- They would do it today because it is the right thing to do for a veteran player who is on a crappy team. If a player was cut, say tomorrow, and then he couldnt sign on with a playoff team, then every other player would see how that team handled the situation and would be less likely to want to sign a contract there. It's out of respect for the player.

They would have to do it today because otherwise there is no point for the player to accept a buy-out as he won't be able to play in the playoffs anyway.

The latest reports sound VERY good for Cleveland. It sounds like Joe Smith and OKC are close to a buy-out where he would come here. That would be OUTSTANDING. And if this "mystery" buy-out happens....
