Wiretap: Kidd Hints at Being in Cleveland Next Season

Post#1 » by gocavs23 » Mon Mar 30, 2009 12:01 am

Not that we really need to be thinking about free agency with all this meaningful basketball to play... but this could be an awesome opportunity if Kidd came in here cheap. I can't think of a better fit to come in and run our second unit. The confused minutes when LeBron is sitting would be a thing of the past. And at the tail end of his career you'd think that role would be absolutely perfect for Kidd.

As long as he is willing to come off the bench...fine. You can never have too many quality Point guards

Less Gibson is OK with me. Kidd would be a hell of a play maker off the bench.

I think Sasha could really benefit from playing with him.

So would Varejao, to the extent of which it would be better for you if he'll opt out this summer, rather than increasing his numbers heading into the 2010 free agency.

Also, Kidd's size coupled with his decreasing quickness, makes him a better SG defender. Espcecially agasint 2nd unit SG's. So you could still benefit from Gibson's 3-point shooting. Kidd-Gibson-Sasha-Hickson-Varejao, that's a hell of a fast break second unit.

Congrats, you know you're a real contender when aging superstars are willing to settle for less money in order to play for your team and win a chance for a ring...

If he really wanted to come off the bench then sure. He could still play plenty of minutes and he could really lead our 2nd unit when LeBron and Mo are on the bench. Kidd and Mo on the floor at the same time would be great as well. I would love to get Kidd in that scenario. But I just don't know if he would be willing to accept a bench role.

If we got Kidd, we could run Kidd at point and slide Mo over to SG. I think that between Delonte, Mo and Kidd, they could all split time equally playing with each other and that would make it a deadly combo. I don't think Boobie's going to suddenly turn into a miraculous scoring machine for us any time soon so I think the less Boobie the better. Kidd obviously realizes that he is getting older and said that he wouldn't mind watching Lebron from the bench. I'm sure he wouldn't mind accepting a more minimal role on the Cavs because he probably wants to win a championship more than anything.

Kidd is a HOF PG. Lol, didn't he start for team USA?

I think that your lineup would be

Kidd
Mo
LBJ
Wallace
Z

With Delonte coming off the bench to provide more points.

LBJ loves Kidd and would probably prefer to have him start meaning more shots for the rest of the team.

Nah, Kidd wouldn't start. He'd be a bench player...I guess a 6th man maybe?

It's tough to determine whether Kidd would be a starter or come off of the bench for numerous reasons, the most obvious being his age. It would also be tough to juggle whether Delonte West could handle coming off the bench or whether Kidd would have to take a more limited role in order to please the rest of the team, especially if the Cavs go far this post season.

Kidd should become the 1st guard off the bench and serioulsy I think Delonte will benefit the most from this just because Kidd guards 2s and his passing ability will rub off on Delonte. I can see Boobie learning more as well. If he takes the 2mil(which) I dont see happening we could still do a lot with the MLE. But yeah something like this may work and not have to trade Pavs because he would work out better. And Hickson and Darnells growth will increase also.

I love the idea of Kidd coming off the bench. But I don't want him if it means sending Delonte to the bench. Also less Boobie is more. If Hickson doesn't improve greatly with Kidd running the 2nd unit then I think it would be fair to say that he will never reach the potential that we all think he has.

It would be great to replace our worst rotation player in gibson with someone who would be a 6moy candidate.

1 yr MLE is what i would give him, if a big man doesn't fall into our laps. He is 36 years old.

That is what I was thinking and thought. Kidd is still productive, but for how long? :-?

Forget Kidd just go for Ben Gordon. Do not turn Mo into a 2 guard he is undersized, keep him at the one and if you want a quality 2 its Ben Gordon off the bench. Gordon will be cheaper, he is in his prime, and there won't be any controversy with complaining of coming off the bench.
"Shaqtastic. 24 points." "Where'd you get so many Q's?" (With a stern scary look) "Don't worry about it..."
