Draft day Magic- final piece

Post#1 » by eyejayem » Tue May 12, 2009 9:23 pm

I am still trying to work my way around seeing a Bosh trade but clearly there are some factors we have to take into account:

1. There is likely there will be no 3-way because no one is helping us become unstoppable.
2. Ferry will not give much, meaning Mo and Delonte and Z are likely off limits.
3. Some teams can offer more but some teams dont want Bosh to be a rental and will likely want him to sign a long term deal if traded. But for anyone reading this from Toronto, there are better offers out there, this is just the best Cavs can give.
4. We have to play to their cap space needs, youth, and picks.
5. AV would be the most likely suitor but since he is likely to opt out he takes himself out the equation.

So what I have come up with is:

1. Cavs buy NO pick(I believe it is 21st). We can also try to move up by combining our later two picks to have two picks from mid teens to early 20s. Or we can try and trade all three and see if we can move into or close to top 10.

At that rate the base of the deal is:

Chris Bosh
Jason Kapono
Marcus Banks

for

Ben Wallace
Aleksander Pavolovic
JJ Hickson
Daniel Gibson(Jackson,Williams, and Kinsey work if they dont like the length of Boobie's contract)
Rights to NO pick(after we pick who they want, has to be done in order to trade our picks)
09 1st rd pick
11 1st rd pick
09 2nd rd pick(Chi pick)
Cash

I think that is the best we can offer. They get instant capspace(Pavs- 1mil guarunteed), 2010 cap space(Ben Wallace- 14 mil), Youth (Hickson and Boobie), and picks(NO pick, our 2 picks in 09, and 2011 1st). If they want even more cap then we throw in the other three low contracts for Humphries.

We take on a lot of cap but we get our final piece.

Roster

Mo Williams/Jason Kidd(MLE)/Marcus Banks
Delonte West/ Aleksander Pavs(resigned once cut-LLE)
Lebron James/Jason Kapono
Chris Bosh/ Joe Smith(Vet minimum)
Zydrunas Ilguaskas/ Anderson Varajao

OK I am ready for all the bashing. Hopefully understands what I am going for.

Does Chris Bosh learn how to play like a man if he comes here, or is he still going to try that perimeter garbage like he was in Toronto this year? The answer to that question tells me how much Im willing to give up.

I'm so glad someone has touched on the same issue I've been thinking of for awhile. Don't get me wrong I like CB but at times when he is matched up with another elite big he can sometimes be over shadowed. Just my thought great talent but may not be that enforcer.

All true.. However, Bosh's life would become so easy playing here and with a dominant player like LeBron.. Plus, there is zero reason for Bosh to play along the perimeter within the framework of our offense..

My biggest concern would be his ability to pick up the schemes on the defensive end, but I do believe if he's fully capable, he would become an absolute monster...

With Bosh on board, and a good deal of health, the title would be ours for years IMO...

I can't see see CB here now. Maybe the following year as a FA. Its a reach buy I only see Ferry getting some type of deal for an expiring for Ben.

Would like to see this happen for Bosh or something similar for Stoudemire. We need a low post beast, as well as youth in the post.

The Bosh deal is NEVER happening too many other teams could make significantly better offers.

Would the Cavs do a sign & trade for Ben Gordon to come off the bench. Using their 1st round pick + Fillers? He adds another 3 point bomber and who knows how good of a % he'd shoot with open looks.

I personally would not want to see the Cavs invest money in another tweener... I like Ben Gordon, but we need a young productive big man moreso than another 3 point shooting short 2guard..

Well said. I like Gordon and would want him here in Cleveland, but our post needs youth badly.

While I agree, it also just kinda occured to me that we have 3 rather young PF's on this team right now. Andy, JJ, and Darnell dont exactly fit the mold of dominant back to the basket big guy, but we are not in complete desperation mode. If you pair those three with Z, Ben, and Joe than our big situation looks pretty solid. Unfortunately we are one Z injury away from being in some serious trouble in the post. I know we hopefully have a lot of playoffs ahead of us still, but it sure will be interesting to see what Ferry can do to add some younger talent there. Its sad that the best post player we have is Wally.

B-Mac,

Darnell is a role player at best.. One that can be very serviceable for us in the near future, and might have the ability to be a Big Baby type, especially if he gets that 15ft jumper down... A low level double/double guy...

JJ is a wildcard, but I imagine if we were to trade for Bosh (if even in the slightest of possibilities) JJ would most likely be included... Furthermore, this Cavs team is ready to win titles now... JJ Hickson is not on their speed and will take a few seasons to become relevant IMO...He has a long ways to go on both ends..

If Loser Boozer does not land a huge offer with someone else would you guys go after him this year at something like:

- 11 to 12 million a year for only 3 years?

I know he's becoming fragile lately, Thoughts?

Its been made pretty clear that Boozer is not welcome back with the Cavs. Gund is still involved with the team and there is no way he wants that backstabber back. Personally, talentwise, I think he would be a great addition, but its just not going to happen.

Yea, and if he were let back I would protest. Seriously, you just don't say your going to do something and not do it; He is not welcome here at all.

And where exactly do we get that money from?

And No.

In LBJ's interview he was quoted saying his dream team would be Magic, Jordan, himself, KG, and Shaq... Bosh is very similar to KG, so I believe that he would be an awesome fit on any team that Lebron was on. Bosh would not only feed off of LBJ's passing and penetration to the basket, opening up wide open looks for others, but also feed off of his work ethic and I believe that LBJ would take Bosh under his wing as a leader and straighten his game out. If we could somehow trade for him, I wouldn't mind giving up Andy, JJ, Boobie, Sasha Pavs.. Any of those guys who are supposedly in our core group.. Bosh is better..
