Do we all agree that Z needs to be traded?

Post#1 » by spurket » Wed Jun 3, 2009 3:08 am

Z had a negative value in the Orlando series and will be a year older and slower next year.

It's not necessary to keep him for sentimental reasons like "Z needs to retire a Cav."

Z would also have a negative value against the Lakers.

Z needs to retire a Cavalier. But it's time he be relegated to the bench.

We shouldn't move him unless we can get Bosh/Amare IMO.

No, he doesn't "need" to be moved, but Cleveland would be a better team if they could get the right piece for him.

I can't believe that people have the silly notion that he has to "retire a Cav". We all love Z but the team has treated him VERY well and it is time to look for something better/younger in return. Z was a complete liability in the ECF.

-He couldn't guard Dwight to save his life.
-Since defenses can hunker in on his outside shot, he rushes it and his percentages drop.
-Orlando didn't respect his post-game at all, which is why they put Rashard Lewis on him.

We would be a better team if we dumped Z for an upgrade. If some people want to hold this stupid sentimental value, whatever.

Yeah, to say he needs to be traded means he has no value and that just flat out isn't true.

i would love to keep Z, but i also hope he takes a big salary cut. hows about some MLE money at the end of his career to keep our salary cap free?

It's a tough call. It would be nice to have him retire as a Cavalier but it's rough paying Center $11mil who sucks in the paint on both ends of the floor. A buy-out / retirement would be nice.

Z struggled with Howard, but who doesn't? Look at Howard, he's a freaking monster physically. I think people forget just how well Z plays Tim Duncan, and that could be the Finals matchup next year.

I would like to see Z used more judiciously. What he provides on offense is a very unique weapon--he's a 7'3" guy with great hands and very good midrange touch, and he's the 2nd best offensive rebounder in the NBA (after Howard). I would like to see him spearhead the 2nd unit, where he can play high post and have the smaller/quicker guys cut and run around with him. Get a bulky defensive specialist (Pryzbylla?) to better slow down Howard and the quicker big guys that give Z so much trouble. Get Z in against the more plodding big men and the guys who don't step out well on D. I thought the Cavs did a real poor job of using Z offensively against Howard--make him step out and guard Z and not build campfires in the paint.

So basically no we dont all agree that Z needs to be traded. In fact it seems most of us dont want him traded at all.

Z is still skilled and, if used in the right situations, is an extremely valuable asset. Matching up against Howard is not the right situation.

To add to that... I hate how the lasting impression everyone has of this Cavs team is that Orlando series. Yes, its how our season ended, but it doesnt mean it is completely indicitive of what this team is truly like. Several factors, not having to do with personnel, added into why we lost, and it just bugs me that so many people think all of these massive changes need to be made. Can we try to remember the Cavs for their whole season of work, and not just the last round of the playoffs when we create our crazy offseason ideas from now on?

I love Z and I want to see him retire as a Cav, but as the players love to remind us at the most inopportune time ..... ITS A BUSINESS!

Therefore trade his slow white a$$.

Sorry for the venom guys, but I shut off this series with 8 minutes left in game 4. I could not take the pain anymore.

My real life is more important than getting heartburn watching the Cavs, Browns, & Indians loss again.

This is Cleveland and I'm proud to say .....hey... It's just business!

I'm goin fishin, out

It doesn't really matter what Cavs fans want to happen, Ilgauskas is Ferry's BFF and he will not be moved.

The correct answer is:

You don't trade the guy to trade him, or keep him because he needs to retire a cav. you maximize the value you can get from him, be it by keeping him or trading him for an upgrade when the right offer comes along.

Even if Z is traded, he will be a free agent next summer. He can resign with Cleveland and retire as a Cavalier. Maybe after being traded he will be bought out and return to Cleveland like McDeyss did with Detroit.

Cleveland will likely play Orlando again in next year's playoffs. The only time Z can play is when Howard is on the bench which is about 10 minutes a game. It's better to trade him for someone that can help Cleveland beat Orlando.

this topic should have been locked already. No, Z does not need to be and will not be traded.

I'm not saying he won't be traded (although I do think it's pretty unlikely) and I'm not saying he shouldn't be traded. But none of that means he NEEDS to be traded.

Z should have never been signed. For all the money Cleveland has thrown away at Z during his career for little production, he should do us a favor and opt out. I am not saying that I do not like Big Z the person, but from a basketball standpoint what does he bring to the team. Especially when you consider how much money he makes. Slow footed, streaky shooting, soft, centers who are a defensive liability are just not in demand.

You guys need to keep Z just to let the contract expire next year to keep your cap/tax numbers stay even close to reasonable.

What you need to do is re-sign Varejao (he won't find a deal out there this year), trade Wallace for Chandler, add some bench scoring via free agency (Villanueva) and the bench defense via the draft (Jerel McNeal or Danny Green)
Please reconsider your animal consumption.

I swear people crack me up how little they know about this whole Z situation. Z had actually left with no intention of returning to the Cavs. When Ferry etc took over they actually had to chase Z down at the airport in order to show him that he was even wanted back in Cleveland. Sure Z had a bad series against Orlando, to be honest all of our big men did. It's not as though Z gets manhandled by the majority of big men in the league. Of course, both Orlando and LA would have posed the same problems for the Cavs.
