Cleveland Cavaliers Might Get Ioannis Bourousis

I am letting you Cavs fans know about this because maybe you don't know yet. Olympiacos Piraeus player Ioannis Bourousis was supposed to have a meeting with the team owners today. He had already delayed the meeting several times. He did not show up and instead sent just his agent to the meeting.

At the meeting the owners of the club offered a huge contract, about the same as $8 million per season in the NBA would be and for 4 years. The agent refused the contract and gave Bourousis' demands. Unless he becomes the highest paid player in Europe and gets a bigger contract than Josh Childress has, he is going to the NBA.

He can sign with either the San Antonio Spurs or the Cleveland Cavaliers who are both willing to give him the MLE and make him their starting center. It seems to be that Olympiacos is not willing to give Bourousis more than they have already offered. So basically, there is as things stand now, a good chance that Bourousis plays with the Spurs or Cavs next year.

I hope this is good news for you guys since you need a center.

I've heard about this, although I doubt he becomes our starting C. Have you watched him play? What kind of game does he have? Who is he most like in the NBA? Any other incite would be appreciated.

I am sure he would be your starting center. He is basically like a younger, smaller, more athletic Big Z. However, he is a much better rebounder than Big Z is.

Smaller how? Is he shorter or lighter? Can he shoot (I know most euro bigs can)? How is his defense, and can he block shots? I know this is nowhere near a lock or anything, but of course most of us here know anything about him.

He is 7-1 280 with a 7-5 wingspan. He has 3 point range and he is an excellent mid range shooter. He excels in the pick and role game. His defense and shot blocking is probably similar to Big Z. His rebounding is similar in offensive boards just like Big Z he can dominate there. But he is a much superior rebounder to Big Z on the defensive end.

Well, he sounds like a good risk. How old is he, and do you think he would need time to adjust to the NBA style game? Is he a strong 280, does he get pushed around at all? Does he have a back to the basket game or is he more of a high post player? Thanks for the info btw!

We would still need to outbid SA to get him though. I wonder if Ferry can get this done. Remember we almost had Scola last year before Houston got him. That would have been a nice addition.

What I read earliers said that he was expecting to get an offer of 2 mil euros tax free from a euro team and that it is unlikely that any NBA team would offer him that much.

What is that US dollars? Is it in the range of 5-6 Million? I am not up on the currency exchange rate.

I heard the same thing as you Outtie, but Im inclined to think that KWSN's update is newer than the news we had heard. All I thought was that he was using the NBA to up his pay in the Euroleagues, but if it is indeed true that he really wants out then he should definately be someone we take a strong look at.

If this guy is a player as KWSN is making him out to be, then I'd be all up for it. Basically a younger, better version of Z based on the descriptions he's given us.

The only thing is that this is a risk. We would be giving up our full MLE, which almost certainly takes us out of the running for someone like Kidd, Rasheed Wallace, etc. Of course if he is a good Center then it could be a steal and set us up perfectly for the future.

He averaged 13 points and 7 reabounds per game in the Euro League in just 21 minutes per game. Fairly impressive when you consider the Euro League is harder to accumulate numbers.

I would take him, especially if San Antonio is after him. At the very least he should be similar to Marcin Gortat. His age and skill-level is good enough for me.

Do it!

Then use trade for Carter (Big Ben) and resign Andy, and Wally and Joe Smith for Verterans minimum

Mo/Boobie/West
Carter/West (Insert draft pick)
Lebron/Wally/Carter
Andy/Hickson/Jackson
Ioannis Bourousis/Z

I like everything I have heard about this kid.

Well here are some highlights from him. He can actually catch and finish alley oops.. Something we never see Big Z do.

he looks half stiff, half semi-athletic...which means he's 200 x athletic than anything we got

Z is bigger and he's a better shooter. Bourousis is as slow as Z and he's a worse shot blocker-offensive rebounder.

He isn't the big we need.

He is 25. He's a huge 280. His frame is enormous. He could probably add 20 pounds of muscle and still be in an ideal playing weight based on his build. He can play high post or low post. He has a low post game that features a developing hook shot that he added this year. He didn't ever touch a basketball until age 18 so he's just now coming into his own.
