How Will The Cavs Roster Fill Out?

Post#1 » by infinite11285 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 7:42 am

Right now, we have 8 people under contract: Mo/Delonte/LeBron/Shaq/Z/Boobie/Hickson/Darnell, who will fill the remaining 4-7 spots? Will any of the players drafted be ready to contribute? What assets do we have remaining to land a player that contribute immediately? Discuss.

Use the MLE on a PF, preferably CV, Sheed, McDyess.

Any of those three would be nice. I'd also really like Marion for the MLE. I guess my ideal situation would be:

Marion for a 1 or 2 year MLE deal.

Varejao for 3-4 years at absolutely no more than $6mil per year.

Joe Smith for the vet min.

Sign a FA SG for the LLE (D Jones, A Parker, K Bogans)

Danny Green makes the team.

#1 Marion does not fit our team he is a SF not a SG and not a PF he cannot fit on out team + he will want to much...

#2 Andy will demand 7.5-8.5 and I think we are going to have to do it....

#3 CV all the way...Maybe Sheed just so I don't have to look at him on Detroit anymore lol...

#4 Danny Greene will not only make it but make an impact and I think we should resign Joe for vet-min and grad Boogans...

Mo/Boobie
West/Boogans/Greene
Lebron/Jawad Wlliams
CV/AV/JJ/DJ
Shaq/Z
"Shaqtastic. 24 points." "Where'd you get so many Q's?" (With a stern scary look) "Don't worry about it..."

#1 - I agree that Marion will want too much. However, if he settled for the MLE, I'd take him over Sheed or CV regardless of position.

#2 - I will be pissed if we give Andy $8.5 mil. He's simply not worth it.

#3 - I'd take either of those guys if Marion is too expensive.

#4 - Seems we agree on all of this.

Danny Green makes the team.

If AV finds a market for himself we likely do a sign and trade, otherwise we takes his tender and we have him for '09 and the cap space in '10.

Id bring Joe Smith back for the league minimum again.

Rasheed - 1 year of MLE money.

Then you still need your long defender....not sure who that will be.

#1 Marion accepting the MLE... laughable. Not a snowballs chance in hell of that happening.

#2 Danny Greene will be awesome. He followed Jordan as a SG at UNC. He is the next Jordan.
Come on. Temper your expectations a bit. He was the 46th pick in a weak draft. Even Ferry thought a guy playing on a second level Joventut team was worth more. He may be a decent player SOMEDAY. Definately not this year. At best, hopefully he can play a little d. He has length unlike the rest of our guards.

#3 Rasheed Wallace. Do you really want this guy on your team? I can see him and LBJ ditching a post game interview and smoking a bowl together after the first disappointing loss. This genius used to talk about how David Stern was holding him back and using the young blacks in the league. I don't care if he can make a three pointer. You can have him. He's a cancer. Detroit won in spite of him.
McDyess is another year older and already turned us down last year. I don't see how you lure him here. You can only make the same promises as last year and those weren't what he wanted.

#4 Varejao is definately not worth 7.5-8.5 million. We'll probably give it to him and say he was the only one available. I'd rather see whats out there in a sign and trade.

I would re-sign AV. I think we need him because Shaq/Z are both up there in age and Andy can step right in and play center when needed and knows the system.

I would then target a PF with range with the MLE - number 1 target would be CV. I would also consider McDyess/Sheed but would prefer some youth. I'm not sure about Joe Smith, I'd probably bring him back but we would have a logjam of PF's in that scenario.

I would look to get another wing with length - someone like Grant Hill would be ideal. If not him perhaps Barnes, someone like that.

Lastly I think we need to pickup a backup PG for depth to reduce Delonte's minutes. Nobody amazing necessarily but we need something.

If we do that, we can matchup against the LA twin towers, and ORL or LA w/ Odom by putting Lebron on the PF and using Hill/Green on Carter/Bryant.

Dude. I said in an "ideal" situation. I also said that I believe he will want more. However, while it might be a long shot, it is not unbelievable that he'd take the MLE with a contender.

Nobody said he'd be awesome. I just want him to make the team and have the opportunity to find a role. Also, I don't believe that Danny "thought a guy playing on a second level Joventut team was worth more". The reason Ferry took Eyenga 30th instead of Green is because he didn't want to pay somebody a guaranteed contract. If he drafts Green there, he gets guaranteed money because he's a 1st rounder. However, Eyenga might never come to the U.S. and thus the Cavs don't pay the guaranteed money.

I'm going to go with
1. Re-sign AV.
2. Green is on the team.
3. MLE on CV/Sheed/Dice
4. LLE on Barnes/Hill/Anthony Parker
5. Min contract or trade of some of our nonguaranteed contracts for a PG

Mo/PG/Boobie
West/Barnes/Green
Bron/Barnes
CV/AV/JJ/DJ
Shaq/Z/AV

I think he'll play however the scenario dictates, much like Sasha... And he'll probably be more efficient at it as well...

Speaking of Sasha, would you take him back for the minimum salary after he gets cut by Phoenix? I'm not sure if I would.

Varejao, McDyess, Grant Hill, and Danny Green will fill out the rotation. CV31 and McDyess are interchangeable I guess.

Mo/Boobie
Delonte/Grant Hill/Danny Green
LeBron/Grant Hill
McDyess/Varejao/DJ
Shaq/Z

DJ will be the 5th big, Hickson will spend time in the D-League to get PT becuase he's going to lose development time in the summer league with his back issue. TK might be brought back, but I doubt it. If he is he'll just be a 12th man. I could see us maybe getting ahold of a young point guard prospect.

I'm pretty comfortable saying that Danny Green will be better than Sasha based on basketball IQ alone. Actually, he might already be better.

Marquis Daniels is now unrestricted. He's a nice long SG that would look good in the Cavs' rotation.

I saw that and that was exactly what I thought. I would actually prefer him to Parker. I dont know how much he will want though.

I'll go a little off the wall here.

Something Id keep my eye on is what the Rockets do this offseason. Yao looks like hes going to be out for almost all of next season, TMac is always injured and wearing down, and the rest of the team isnt good enough to mean much. With Artest being a FA this offseason I could see the Cavs making a serious run at him. It would probably take a sign and trade of Andy and maybe someone like Boobie or picks, but putting him in the 2 spot sure does make us ridiculously tough on D. Then we sign a PF for the MLE like Villanueva or Rasheed and sign someone like Anthony Parker for the BAE and Joe Smith for the minimum and we are looking all set.

Mo/Delonte
Artest/Parker
LeBron/Green
Villanueva/Joe Smith/Hickson
Shaq/Z/Jackson

^That would be a dream. Highly unlikely but with Artest, who knows what he will do. HOU might want to cut some costs next year with Yao out, especially since they would still have Battier.

I think Daniels is out of our range too because he will want more than the BAE, he would take a chunk of the MLE which I think we need to use on a PF.

Saw that on RCF too. Was going to put something about it in my post but decided to leave it out. But damn that lineup is insane.
