Cleveland Fans: Charlie Villaneuva tidbit

Post#1 » by MoorsOrMoops » Tue Jun 30, 2009 4:19 pm

Charlie Villaneuva played in 32 games this year where he had 30 or more mintes. In those 32 games he averaged 23ppg and 9rpg. That is impressive. And he did it on good shooting as well. Give him a defined role on a team with 2 good leaders and you will have a very good player.

Good luck.

He will be perfect and will have plenty of backup...Let Andy walk and sign him and Sheed I think... There are so many good players out there that because of the economy and teams saving the little money they have for next year, players will have to lower their cost. I want to resign Joe for the vet min as well. The free agent I want if we sign both CV and Sheed is either Anthony Parker or Matt Barnes.

Mo/Boobie
Barnes/West/Greene
LeBron/Barnes
Sheed/CV/Smith/JJ/DJ
Shaq/Z/Smith

Hell of a team...

That team would win 70 games if relatively healthy. I don't think it's possible to sign both Sheed and CV though.

that team would easily win the east and nba title, however there is no way to sign sheed and CV, unless we split the MLE up between them say 2.5 for CV and 3 for Sheed. but that wont happen

But won't we have money if we don't sign AV? I just do not know how all that works with if your resigning someone or getting someone new? If AV wants eight million and Sheed will go for the MLE which I think is six, and we do not sign andy won't we have that eight for CV? Plus we have 2 million of our biannual exception to use as well...

im not sure if we can use that money on another player or not. i thought if you were over the cap all you could offer was the Biannual excepetion and the MLE.

another thing im not sure of, if we offer CV a contract tommorow can he sign it immedialt if he doesnt want to play for anyone else?

Not trying to troll, but just an FYI, when you're over the cap you can only use your MLE and LLE to obtain FAs. Well that and the Vet's minimum. You cannot simply use a departing players money to sign new players. Hope that helps..

Yes because the bucks did not make an offer therefore he is a UNRESTRICTED free agent so even if the bucks matched it is up to him. Had that not happened he would of had to waited til July 8th for the bucks to match. I think lol

ok thanks but what I do not get is why can we still offer AV that money because as of about 1 hour ago he is a free agent...so why is he different right now to us as opposed to CV or Sheed? Technically AV is no longer on the team...

I believe it's because we have bird rights on Varejao. Meaning we can go above the cap to resign him.

Since we are over the cap, CV or Sheed would have to be brought in with one of the exceptions = MLE/BAE, or the Vet Min

Well, no FAs can OFFICIALLY sign until July 8th. Teams and GMs can begin to contact FAs beginning tomorrow and FA's can verbally take themselves off the market after coming to an agreement, but cannot actually sign on the dotted line until July 8th. Now RESTRICTED FA's have to wait 10 days for their team to match regardless of when they actually sign a deal..

thanks JHTruth for clearing that up, is there a reason the nba works free agency like that seeing as the other two major sports MLB and NFL you can sign as soon as you want

Not sure but I think it comes from the player side. The players wanted a real market to take shape before players get pressured to sign for cheap before the market develops..

Thanks everyone. Ok it makes more sense now. Well bring in CV at least and resign andy in that case I think. I do love andy but I would rather have Sheed. Now would it clear up more money if we made a sign and trade with Andy so essentially finding a loop hole to use the eight million on someone else? But if not we should use our biannual on either Hill, Anthony Parker or Matt Barnes. I think I like Barnes the most...

Mo/Boobie
Barnes/West/Greene
Lebron/Barnes/Greene/(maybe)Wally
CV/AV/JJ/DJ/(maybe) Smith
Shaq/Z

And maybe resign Joe Smith and Wally.

I think we could be screwed on the CV front. Boozer didn't opt out of his contract so Det might shift their sights on Villaneuva.

Especially considering OKC is rumored to be offering a huge contract to Milsap.

Perhaps Det targets David Lee, but given they are already rumored to be going after CV, I think we might have to look elsewhere for PF help. All Det has to do is bid slightly higher than the MLE and we can't match the offer.

If Charlie wants to come here he will. Detroit would be stupid to make a big play at Charlie IMO.

No problem, it's a heck of a resource as it addresses about any question regarding the cap.
